For $1500 ($200 more) the 14" pro is almost a no brainer.

100% this. Also (at least to me) the 14" screen on the pro with M1 makes multitasking much better. The extra RAM and screen makes a ton of difference when running a lot of applications. 13" might be more portable sure but I gladly sacrifice the half pound of weight savings for the 14" instead. Got the 14 pro from the Costco deal a few weeks ago and it's definitely an excellent machine.

It's actually $1599. Just look up MacBook pro deals here in slickdeals. I think bestbuy, amazon, and costco still has it available.

Bringing out a Pro model with a 8GB chip seems silly even for Apple. For poseurs?

To pre-empt the usual Apple cult talking points, NO, the M1 chip does not use memory in any more efficient way to require less memory. In fact, the available memory is shared between CPU, GPU and the neural engine. Same apps don't use less memory on M1 than on on Intel Macs.

I am an Apple supporter but have mostly utilized pc and desktops. 8 gbs of ram is definitely obsolete. My ancient pc with 32 gbs can still keep up. Dollar for dollar ram is best investment imho

You guys are comparing Apples to Oranges (well, Windows). I have a one-year-old Dell i7Latitude 7400 with 32GB of RAM but would almost always choose my 2014 Macbook Air i7 with 8 GB of RAM.

I'm about to upgrade now, but waiting for Adobe to update Captivate first. Part of me wants a top-of-the-line Macbook Pro, but it's not going to be as comfortable to hold/use as I shift between chairs.

I always try to keep in mind it's about what I do with something, not about how many GB of RAM it has. I don't play games, though, which I know would likely change everything.

Are there any other websites that don't charge local taxes matching the $1599 price? I found Adorama selling it for $1799, but that's still around the $1599 + tax in my area.

Quoted for truth.
