Not to burst anyone's bubble but this is a lukewarm deal. There were cheaper deals on this machine in the past. If you are willing to wait, I think it will be cheaper on Black Friday

You might have missed it. It's got a 1TB NVME SSD, and a 2TB HDD.
That's the problem it's the brand reliability and that PCIE gen 4 is the standard with gen 5 launching soon (I believe this drive is Gen 3).

Really debating between this and the custom build I put together on PC part picker. It would be my first gaming PC.

My build is $1,500 AND includes a 32" monitor, speakers, and WAY better cooling. I know the GPU isn't as good.

The cooling on the Victus has me worried and I don't think I need an i7.

Anyone mind checking my build, see what they think? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v8pZqm
build looks solid, personally i'd prefer the i7, it's a little more future proof. everything else you have is pretty good. As for if you decided to get this one, you could add a little more ram and just swap a all in one water cooler to it. Downside to this one is that it's only got 2 DIMM slots apparently.

The specs look ok, a 3070 would make it slick

True. But I'm planning on doing two 16gb RAM sticks anyway, so that wouldn't be a big deal.

Meh, not sure who this is for. Too much CPU to be budget gamer. Not enough GPU to be actual gamer. Too low on RAM to be a legit video editing machine. Also, HP has a horrible reputation for cooling and build quality.

Trolls gonna troll. You realize how many people are still on 5+yr old 10-series GPU? Or even the junky 1350/1650/1660 gpu? I'm running a GTX1070 and game a lot on it, an RTX3060 would be a nice upgrade. So not sure what you're on about.

Only legit concern you brought up is cooling, but most people can figure out a solution fairly easily.

Your build is better. You spend $200 more on the tower, and get significantly less processor power BUT you get better case, way better cooling, way more RAM, way better PSU, way better storage, probably better mobo.

Only reason to go i7 is if you're doing a lot of heavily threaded tasks (gaming is not heavily threaded).

You seem to have missed the main point, which is that this machine isn't a good balance. If you want to build a gaming system around a 3060 it should be paired with a 12400F ($195 cheaper and just as fast because you're still going to be GPU bound).

Yeah, something more like this is what I'd go for. Swap the CPU for a 12400F and you've got machine that is cheaper, beats the HP in gaming, and generally better component quality.

I agree with everything except build quality and cooling concerns, at least with the Omens I own. This could be different on this model so maybe apples to oranges. But I feel the same about the other components. Just seems like an odd config

Just got my costco lenovo yesterday. Can any experienced pc builders comment on both costco lenovo and this hp?

This is my first lenovo. How are their quality and built?

I have had hp laptops throughout the years with no issue.

Tempting to return the lenovo and get this.

But on the other hand, costco has 90 days return policy vs hp 30 days with restocking fee. And costco 2 years warranty vs hp 1 year.
Keep the Lenovo. 90 day return puts you past Black Friday. Which lets you use your Lenovo for now and if there's a better deal then you can return the Lenovo to Costco. That's what I plan on doing at least as I got my Lenovo yesterday as well.

Great deal! You can build more performance in a custom build, but these people posting parts picker's lists aren't getting front mounted usb-c.
Expect the PL2 to be hard set at 65w or close to it for keeping this cool, so you won't get nearly as much performance as a custom build.
Boosting will be very short, then clock speed will drop.
But if you aren't building I see this easily lasting and playing games for at least 5 years or so before new AAA games will start getting choppy.
The GTX 1060 is just over 6 years old and still plays most modern games well.
It's true though that if you built with a 12400f you'd save a lot and may never notice that it has only got 57% of the multi-core horsepower the 12700 has.
