Asking for someone who needs to be educated; Is that good or bad?

P.S. that someone is me.

for 99% of people that's plenty to overkill.. anything above is for those who specifically have a need for it

Thats a mid-range performance drive. About half the speed of the fastest drives, but it is very fast.

This particular make and model drive might be one to avoid though, as the manufacturer has changed components and specs after it was reviewed by tech media. It appears PNY has substituted cheaper components in the currently available drives, so they may be less reliable or have lower performance in certain circumstances.

Cliff notes: there's no evidence they changed the hardware, only people making things up (guessing).

As far as I can tell, there's no evidence of this at all. PNY reduced the endurance rating and people *guessed* that could be due to a hardware change. But no one has actually found any hardware changes. None. For example, people thought they might stop using TLC, but recent purchases still show TLC.

I haven't found anyone who actually has found any hardware changes at all and the assumption is they reduced the endurance rating because of Chia farming. And it brought it's endurance rating more in line with it's competitors. For example, the old rating was 1660tbw on the 1TB drive, while a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB had an endurance of 600tbw, a full 1,000 tbw less.

Peak transfer rate for the interconnect this device is built for is 4,000 MB/s, so this device is coming close to saturating the interconnect (that is, getting 'all you can' out of the device).

This tells you a few things:
1. The PNY SSD listed here is relatively efficient (it's not 'wasting' bandwidth by not using it)
2. It is close to the best performance you can get for this interconnect (PCIe 3.0) - meaning if you system supports no higher than version 3.0 of the PCIe spec, this device is pretty close to 'as good as it gets' in terms of bandwidth.
3. Commonly used files/applications today tend to be on the order of 0.1-10 GB in size (that is, 100 MB to 10 GB). This drive will, neglecting other considerations, move files of that size within ~1 second, meaning the 'time spent waiting' to perform an operation will be on the order of your likely response time (so you won't noticeably be waiting on the machine to do typical tasks for you).

Like others said, PNY changed the endurance spec, removed the "TLC" from the sell sheet, and now the drive is priced like a QLC drive.

If they haven't switched to QLC NAND on this model already, it certainly looks like they are planning to.
