That's the newest trend for all carriers, require the most expensive plan for all promos, and lock you in for 2 years of credits (vs ETF back in the day, basically the same).

Agree, but at the same time getting 800 for a 3 year old phone compensates for that Smilie.

I'm on an older no longer offered T-Mobile one amplified plan and the site will let me take advantage of this deal as well. I'm worried though that for all non Max plans that they just won't give full credit on the trade once they get further into the process since it does say "up to" $1000 trade in and the amount of trade in they offer is just an estimate. The fine print says only up to $500 for all non magenta max plans.

I would think they should honor what they show. But you never know. I have sent a message to T-Mobile help on Twitter. Let's say what they respond and I will save that response for later

Be nice to know for certain. T-Mobile charges a ridiculous $70 restock fee for returns if you change your mind if they don't honor.

I didn't know that there is a plan called Magenta Plus. Interesting deal if it works but does not work for Magenta.

Did you try with a Magenta plan and it not offer you the deal?

T-Mobile claims that Magenta Plus and Magenta Max are exact same rate plans with Magenta Max having unlimited premium data (5G data). However, if I try to switch to Magenta Max from Magenta Plus, it shows my bill will go up significantly (looks like the two hookup discounts I have will vanish).

In any case did you try with Magenta and it does not show you discount or are you assuming?

From a quick Google search its appears that the One Amplified plan is also the same as Magenta Max and offers the same services. I don't know if that is true, but that might explain why the offer appears to be available to me. I don't even get an option to change to another plan online, it just tells me that I "already have the best plan" available for me.

I'm curious though if anyone else has gone through the steps to redeem and was unable and if they are checking your availability upfront rather than just checking to see later if your new phone gets connected to a magenta max plan. I tried redeeming the t-mobile offer via the Apple store app and it seems to want me to agree to change my plan or pay more to keep my current plan. It's confusing.

I'm on magenta plus and it applied the promo for $800 (vs $500) for IPhone XR trade in for me yesterday.

I tried with Magenta but I don't get On Us for 14 pro. I only get 50% off so I can get $400 trade in value credit over 24 months for iPhone 11

The wording on this offer is confusing to me because it says "on us" but then there's $$$$ off based on your trade-in, but it also says credits up to $1000. I have an iPhone 8 Plus. Does this mean, I can trade it in, get $400 off in the spot, and $600 in monthly credits over the next 24 months? If so, that is a sweet deal! I'm on a ONE plan that has basically the same features of Magenta Plus and costs the same.

I'd rather keep my IPhone 11 than upgrade to these Magenta plans. I'm not falling for it.

FWIW, I finally got the response from T-Mobile help on Twitter and this is what it said.

I did go through and verify that with the promotion you can still get that $800 promo with your plan, you don't have to change to Max, so you're all set!

The way that works is you will get a device credit for the market value of the phone, which is $185 for the iPhone 11. That would be applied to your account balance as a one-time credit. The remainder of the offer, $800 minus $185, is $615 and would be broken into 24 monthly installments for $25.62 per month, The monthly credit goes against the monthly charge.
...
I am saving this response should they not honor.
