Bought this last time around expecting a bland but easy way to get a quick protein fix. This stuff is actually quite tasty! Great amount of spices and dried diced peppers to give it a good flavor. Just mix with water and pan fry them and you've got a surprisingly great black bean burger from a can. I use twice the amount as their serving size suggestion, and that makes a pretty big patty. Grabbing another can to bring on camping trips.
I post this every time. But this stuff is really good mixed with instant rice, taco seasoning and some of The bulk mac and cheese powder. I split it into 600 calorie portions. Put those in quart Ziploc bags to take on hiking trips. You just throw in some boiling water. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes while you set up camp. Then it's ready to eat.
I made a little bag out of reflectex to throw the quart Ziploc bags in. I throw that in to keep it warm while it cooks.
If you're busting out cans of this stuff during a natural disaster, lockdown or apocalyptic event, you'll be happy about the salt because you'll probably be sweating a lot trying to take care of things that need doing. Salt is great for backpacking and long term storage foods.

Thanks, good to know! I ordered a few, but have never tried it. Was going to open one up and keep one for storage.
Why is this statement appearing on labels? Congress recently passed the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (NBFDS) requiring food manufactures to disclose foods that include certain types of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Some companies use the terms "Genetically Modified Organism," "GMO" and "Genetic Engineering" on their labels, however they must use "bioengineered food" or "Contains a bioengineered food ingredient(s)" to comply with NBFDS. *
What is Augason Farms doing to meeting the NBFDS requirement? All applicable product labels have been updated to include "Contains a bioengineered food ingredient".

Did anyone look at the ingredients? 20% salt in one three inch patty.
Research shows if you don't have kidney issues people are fine with up to 7 grams salt daily as opposed to the 3 grams recommended. You are more likely to have health issues from low Sodium levels than high levels.

It's more meant as survival food (oh S*%# food), which you'll need the salt if it was used as its intention. It's not meant to mix in with your daily Doritos and salted pretzels. I think 20% is proper for the means.
