-Looking for a GPU $450 and cheaper? Pick one up now if you see a deal and it's a very specific card you want (brand and model/cooler type). Mid Range cards are low margins so they will hardly see a discount over the months even with miners offloading a lot of their cards on the used markets. If you don't really need a card, then wait. You'll see a discount in the tens or 20s dollar. I recommend the 6700XT at sub $400 and the 3060Ti at MSRP $400. Waiting longer by weeks or months just saves you $20 to $50 which doesn't make sense.
-Looking for a high end card $550 and over? The 6900XT, 3090Ti, 3090, 3080Ti cards are the highest margin cards and manufacturers over supplied these to sell to miners who no longer want to buy them. The price drops will be in the $$ hundreds. You could wait a few weeks to a few months (end of the year) as they'll get further discounts. Mainly because the used market will really hurt high end cards and many lower income gamers don't have that much disposable income to afford these cards. Don't expect mentioned high end cards above to reach sub $500 tagged at face value. The 6900XT could possibly reach sub $600 but it would be the bad branded/cooler versions like Gigabyte, Yeston, etc. The lowest price will likely be achieved by a coupon through a credit card, rebate and some other online store coupon/cash back exploit.
Nvidia launchs with their top cards will not affect current mid range prices and very little effect on the top end cards. The used market will have a better influence but cryptomining didn't crash like the last time in 2017/2018. Miners are not panic selling, they'll offload cards gradually (but will be much more plenty than 2018/2019). AMD's GPU launch of the 7000 series have a better chance of affecting prices more than the Nvidia GPUs. Nvidia will mimic the 20 series launch for the 40 series.

Only time will tell.
after waiting for the new stuff, we have to wait for prices to normalize, by then its back to waiting because the newer stuff is right around the corner lol
You're going to hear the argument that waiting and waiting until the next thing comes out puts you on a loop forever. These people don't get it. The POINT is to not buy something when the thing you are purchasing can get outdated or depreciates within a short amount of time. So the main point is TIMING of your purchase. You don't want to buy a motherboard only using usb 2.0 if they're going to update in a month or two with usb 3.0. You don't buy a high end video card if they're going to outdate them in a couple of months. The new cards will likely arrive late October for Nvidia and the announcement is just a little over a week away. After announcement, everyone will have to wait for benchmarks when the NDA disclosure is lifted so tech youtubers and websites benchmark the new 4090 and 4080 to tell you if the price is justified. My advice is, wait for a few weeks after Ethereum goes POS as cards will start to show up on the used market and new cards have to contest against that market because there were way too many miners buying all these GPUs in the last 20 months. It will not be a flood like most exaggerate but Nvidia launching cards will not affect current prices in my opinion. It is the used card market and AMD's 7000 series GPU launch that would affect prices. Nvidia is going to price their 4090 and 4080 high like the 20 series launch after a cryptomining crash.

I agree. This card will easily beat the 3060Ti at the same MSRP price (which I think is also a good buy if you must go Nvidia) as it's closer to 3070 performance in rasterization. I don't think Ray tracing is worth the premium. Nvidia cards will take much longer and will hold onto their MSRP price more stubbornly compared to AMD cards. If you need a card now, this is one of the best choices. The cards dropping in prices will be 6900XT, 3090, 6800XT (if you can find it in stock), 6700XT, then 3080Ti. The mid range cards will hardly drop in price, if at all. Most of the AIBs are factoring the midrange prices with inflation. You will have a hard time seeing the 3060Ti drop in price as the FE cards do not factor in inflation and are already low in margins. I expect Nvidia to price the 4080 to match market value of the 3080Ti and 3090 (which are currently around $900 and $990)
It's not about if the prices are good or not, it's about helping the companies burn a little
