Had best buy price match, tried to use the 15% recycle coupon too but that won't work with price match. Still a good deal and works great with cox internet. When I called to provision, they upgraded me to 500 mb for 2 years for an extra $2/month so $74.99 for 500 mb service which is good by me.

Thanks OP

Hi, I'm just curious how you located that Comcast modem deal on the Motorola networking website for the 8611 modem? I can't get to it just by using any of the navigation on their website, so just curious how you found out about it?
I'm in for one as I'm moving to an area where I need to get a new service

According to previous threads, someone reached out to a representative to ask that question and this is what they said:
Quote :
Comcast Replacement means: ..."If you are a Comcast customer and you choose to purchase the MB8611 from our store then you would receive a discount when purchasing the modem". In summary it is just a discount for Comcast customers and the modem itself should work with the providers listed on the spec page."

Thanks for that info! I'm a little confused though, does it mean it's "locked" to Comcast? Would I be able to use it on another provider if I purchase it from the "Comcast Replacement" page?

I tried to price match online with Bestbuy. No luck. They said it was a Comcast replacement and sent me a link to the full-price modem on the Motorola website. I use Comcast anyways and just bought it through Motorola. Thanks OP!

Although I can't directly answer your question, hopefully this might help others who are considering this modem. I just bought this and set it up 2 days ago for my Xfinity 600 mbps service. It has been dreadful and I get dropouts as the modem sporadically resets itself about 5 times a day, often back-to-back. I did some researching and found that it is a common issue for Xfinity customers. Can't say for sure that it'll happen to everybody, but personally I haven't been having a good time with this.

Ordered the Arris S33 today. Will see how that goes.

I'd be interested to hear let us know how it goes. I'm still torn between the two.

So far so good! Been up and running on it for 5 hrs with no drop (knock on wood). I know it's not much real time use and others may not experience the same issues I had on MB8611 but so far S33 is serving me better. The MB8611 had already rebooted on me once this morning before I replaced it with S33.

FWIW I have experienced the same issue at least once a day with Xfinity. I would not recommend this modem.

I spoke with a Motorola rep yesterday and specifically asked if this was locked into Comcast's service, which it is not. I also confirmed that it wasn't a factory second nor a refurb modem. Good deal!

Thank you for that info, very helpful! Ironically, I may end up with Comcast after all, because it appears my preferred provider does not service the town I will be moving to... Frown
