Yeah nov/dec 2020 got one for my daughter which broke before warranty was over which turned out to be good thing because we got a new one in return with 16gb 1tb extra and rtx 3050

If you want cheaper and smaller from B&M Best Buy, check to see if they a Zenbook 14 with the 5500u and MX450 in stock. I did on a whim and found one for $350. Fits in my MacBook 13.3 travel cases with room. Good enough for light gaming too.

The hard drive is obviously not the best but seems pretty good for the price. Not going to find one with dedicated graphics much cheaper until BF.

The dedicated graphics keep getting a mention but the Ryzen 5 5600H is also noteworthy as a 6-core H-series ("High Performance") Zen 3-based CPU (so not one of the older efficiency Ryzen cores still built around Zen 2 or older cores that often pop up on Slickdeals).

This CPU typically performed around i9-territory... except no i9-equipped laptop made an appearance at retail around $550(!).

I always view the look and feel of the laptop, and kinda turn my nose to plastic ones. I'm feeling it's about the end of wanting a non-plastic chassis for the public in general. I think you can still angle for the business field for part of this endeavor, just would probably be weak in the gaming part.
