Bought two earlier in the week. The CPU outperforms everything else at this price point. If you can get access to cheap RAM, this is an easy buy. Comes with 4 GB soldered PC4 3200 RAM with 1 empty SO-DIMM slot.

The long-term outlook for these amazing new hybrid 12th generation CPUs has yet to be written (see the article on this Lenovo [notebookcheck.net] and consider that optimizations for hyrbid designs have gotten a lot of development time from Microsoft [hothardware.com]). I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this system budget right away for at least a 4GB RAM expansion. Windows doesn't really perform well anymore at 4GB. More than half of the RAM space can be consumed at idle after booting up(!) - and in a 4GB PC this is incomplete as Windows is forced to limit how much of the operating system is loaded into RAM to conserve space. Any application loaded after booting up starts demanding loads of page file/virtual memory/SSD-storage-as-RAM and tasks the CPU to service those requests, making the system effectively slower than it should because of the RAM configuration.

Though not the best performance/value I've seen at this price point as of late, this deal is pretty darn close.

I have the 11th gen dual core version of this. I don't really have any real complaints on it given the price. Way back in the past I remember an all-plastic dual-core, 14" 720P screen, Dell E-something I bought that I did all my windows-related work for years on.

I am not a "Heavy" PC user. I do use MS office a lot with "normal" file sizes. This is a great laptop for doing whatever "reasonable" workload you have at it. That is, it has done everything quickly and without issues since I've bought it last year.

Since hanging around the laptop section of SD I've bought way too many different types of laptops over the last couple of years. Most of them I like to mess around with, modify a bit, and then sell after a while. Some only make it a couple of months. The only that has stayed past a year is the 11th gen version of this. That's because it's not overkill for what I do. That said, this processor is fairly powerful. No, it doesn't match up to some of the beast processors out there now but it is likely all you need.

Edit: one thing that I do wish my 11th gen version of this had was usb-c charging. I assume this one still doesn't have it because that's how they differentiate from higher models?

AND, even if you end up just doing a lot of browsing on this laptop, you really want to upgrade your years old processor/laptop. This 12th gen is seriously fast on your modern browsers compared to your old machine.

just canceled my order after calling ASUS support. this is FHD (not IPS panel) 220 nits. XE graphics is only for i5/i7 models w/dual channel memory. so i3 will support UHD graphics only.

Sale ends today. Return period is 14 days. This is the low end configuration with TN panel. I don't believe the inflated Passmark scores. I am tempted to buy it, confirm that performance is about the same as i5-1135G7 and return it. Alder Lake can run for 10 seconds at 60 watts (depending on cooling) which gives the illusion of high performance, even though it can't be sustained. Smoke and mirrors. I'm also curious just how loud the fan noise is.

Perfectly fine for "normal" non heavy multithreaded work. That is most people playing at this price range.

The UHD graphics has 60EU and has built-in AV1 decoding. Its good to go for most normal ghings except playng games i guess.

The multicore performance is greatly increased, but if you want multicore performance above all else then look for a Ryzen. It'll be tougher to get at this price level but if you need and want it...you already know that.

Even if the is ram upgradable, I can't understand why any manufacturer would think 4gb of ram is acceptable in 2022, especially given a modern processor.

This is NOT a Slick Deal with 4GB RAM and no touch screen. Also, these low end 2-core Intel 12th Gen chips are not gonna allow much more than web browsing and light media consumption. That's why they pair it with 4GB RAM. If you're going to spend this much then buy an excellent open box touch-screen w/ 8GB RAM for the same price at Best Buy, Woot, or Walmart.

You're gonna need a quad core performance CPU or better. Personally I would look to the AMD Ryzen 5/7 5th gen (Zen 3)
