That has a TN panel. Nuff said.

Major positive about this one though is the significantly better 10-core processor vs the 6-core in the former. The former would have a much better battery life though.

Edit: Damn, this has a TN panel too. 🤮

ASUS indicates you can only add 8 GB to the empty slot:

https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/F.../techspec/

Kingston backs them up:

https://www.kingston.com/en/memor...-gen-intel

That's not a dealbreaker, just a disappointment. 20 or 36 GB would be better.

Most of the time this is a conservative max. People usually report they can add larger DIMMs than most laptops claim to officially support, YMMV.

I wouldn't call it significantly better-- the core # boost is only for the e-cores. the p-cores are the same with roughly the same performance (higher base on this one but ultimately same at turbo). same single-thread performance. e-cores are very weak compared to their p-core counterpart. You may not notice much of a difference (if any) between the two in the daily tasks you do.

This is the same laptop from exactly a month ago @ $350. Here's the thread:

https://slickdeals.net/f/16043380-asus-vivobook-15-laptop-intel-core-i3-1220p-15-6-1080p-4gb-ddr4-25...

This is the second time I almost jumped on the deal. I'm holding out for a 15.6, 12th gen i3/i5, IPS, & backlit keyboard for around this price.

Display is TN, not IPS. It's also not Iris XE like the Staples site indicates - that's only in i5/i7. For me, the TN screen is the deal breaker.

With that in mind, the Target Lenovo laptop is actually a better deal IMO. Double the RAM and $60 cheaper.

Clicking on the link by OP, I still see 329...pickup and delivery. If you end up not liking the TN screen then the return should be easy at least.

The graphics just has less cores. Its still "Xe" just less of them and not branded as such.

My previous years version of this takes whatever you put there. I doubt it's different.

True - it could be the same, just without the branding. I know the Intel ARC page lists it as "UHD Graphics for 12th Gen Intel" as well as the HP product guide. As far as performance difference, the 64 EUs on this seem to be comparable to a GTX 1050 Mobile and AMD Vega 8...which isn't bad.
