These "subscription" printers are smart...too smart.
They will detect refills AND off brand cartridges....some of them have been known to disable printers claiming the cartridges are empty and need replacing even though they are 40% full.

I was just more so saying I don't like the subscription services and I recently looked as hard as I can to find a previous model that did not have these subscription service attached to it. What HP did along with staples and everyone else was pulled the original products and replaced them with the subscription products. I don't want this thing limiting my device. I don't print enough for a subscription and I don't like the fact I don't have the control. I just bought a couple of off-brand toner cartridges and I don't need the unit complaining about them. As we can see they're giving a printer away for free... That printing cost the same price as ink, and inkjet printers make a lot of money by selling the ink, not the printer.
He used to be where it was cheaper to just buy a new printer with the starter ink didn't buy the ink itself

Switched to a $99 Brother laser printer 8 years ago and never looked back.
