I have one, it's awful. It doesn't map like a vacuum, it's super dumb. You have to lay down a perimeter wire and it just goes wherever it wants until it runs out of power. Setting up the perimeter wire is a huge pain because it has to be placed in a very specific pattern to cover every edge and obstacle. You'll spend days planning the layout. It never finishes my lawn, so it has to go out multiple times. I have the 1/2 acre model and it's just so slow. Full lawn completion will take 2-3 outings over days. The mobile app is worthless too, it has no controls at all. It will never stay connected to WiFi. There are extra (paid) add-ons for everything. It also uses crappy razor blades (like shaving ones), so it can't cut very thin grass, it just pushes it aside. The only positive is that it's quiet, you could run it at night and nobody would know. However, I wouldn't buy one after owning this unit, they're not ready for primetime.

I have this for a year. This does not do well with slopes...especially if the slope is near the edge (boundry wire). constantly slips over the wire and then shuts down cos it is "outside the wire". I hae to then carry it back inside and resume mowing.
Also the wheels constantly dig trenches near sharp turns and then get stuck

There is no set pattern or route. It just pinballs around your yard like a Gen 1 roomba.

Use that Amex $5 off whatever to bring it down to the low low price of $625 to make it super slick deal.

I have a flatish yard, but it's got a trampoline, a desk, and a concrete pad that prevent it from being a proper rectangle. Would I need to boundary line around each of those?
The short answer is yes. You can make islands with your boundary wire to keep it out of spots you don't want that are actually not on the boundary (like a big flower bed in my case). I have it crossing my driveway with the wire routed through expansion joints.
You can also buy ACS to avoid stuff that is tall enough (I have no experience) and an off limits module which allows you to put magnetic tape to prevent entry. I use the off limits to separate 'zones', prevent temp entry (like when reseeding), and shortcuts so it doesn't have to drive the whole boundary when returning home.

Damn we're getting lazy
Eh people have been lazy for a while. How many people outsource their lawn care to a company? My neighbor pay $45 per cut. After 14 cuts he would break even. Essentially, he'd break even after a year and start saving after.

I just ordered the screw on metal cleats for the wheels, it's supposed to really help.

Added a YouTube review, they're all over eBay/Amazon/Etsy/etc.

There's another version that's a pair of metal discs with teeth you screw onto the outside of the wheels. Seems like the cleats would probably be the best traction but probably more work to install.

***Edit: The 4x12 mm cleats really make a HUGE difference, there is no slipping at all on the grass.

I just purchased the refurbished WR147 last week. Had it sitting in my cart overnight and seller offered another 20% off, total came to $564
Takes a couple of hours to setup, but once I registered it on the app, I received the full 3 year warranty (instead of 1 year). These bounce around your yard randomly but It hasn't gotten stuck. If you have a hilly yard I'd recommend ordering some spikes for the wheels.

IMO it's still too early with robot lawn mowers. Of course without people buying the mfgs will stop developing, but until the prices come down and the tech gets better they're not for the average person. Full GPS (wires? no), eyes to avoid ALL types of obstacles, better battery life, lines versus pinball, etc.

I bought 2 of these for 1 acre land and did not regret it. Saved me ~$350 a month for lawn mowing service. Set up is not easy and you'll still have to trim the edges and rescue the robot on occasions, but overall, worth it for me.

They released a firmware update in August that helps with the ruts. Instead of stopping when it hits the boundary and trying to turn in place (losing traction and digging), now it senses the boundary and takes a curved path in another direction trying not to come to a complete stop.
