Is this gonna be cheaper on black Friday?

Last year BF was 25% off, but it may be better to jump on now if Plex is planning a price increase

I have used Plex everyday for years, but still don't pay for it.

With reasons other than supporting the devs, someone please convince me to buy this… I don't host a public server btw…

Nothing personally. Some people don't like the paywall for some features, like the hardware transcoding or remote playback stuff.

Full access to mobile apps, DVR, offline viewing, and smaller features like adding lyrics via LyricFind all require Plexpass.

Apparently IPTV is better on Jellyfin, and transcoding perhaps?

A buddy of mine switched to Jellyfin recently for all of his users (dozens) and he is happy with the switch.

Either way though, I still enjoy Plex and have no real issues besides it running like crap on my old Windows Server 2019 box (since installed windows 11, but I should try UNRAID).

Hardware GPU transcoding support, live TV DVR, and movie/tv metadata is all I can think of. The transcoding support alone was easily worth the lifetime sub.

I run plex server through a docker on Unraid. Unraid is one of the best tech purchases I've made in the last decade.

If I as the server owner purchase the Pass, would any users that I have shared the server with be able to enjoy Pass benefits like mobile streaming?

From what I've seen over the years, their paid features are the buggiest and Plex will leave showstopping bugs in there for several months if not years at a time. They ignore beta testers and go ahead with releases when they know it will break things and it seems like they couldn't care less about the stability of their software.

Thanks OP. Recently bought DS920+ which does hardware encoding for Plex so this will go great with it.

Your users would have to purchase the $5 plex app but other than that they'd have no issue.

These sales are almost predictably regular a few times every year.
