I feel like everything leaks these days. I don't get it

I am not sure about that. Have you tried Harbor Freight? Years ago they had coupons to get them for free. I had them in drawer and my house stays around 40 to 50% humidity year round. In less than a month they were leaking in an unopened package and I had to throw them all away. They were not worth free.

Please stop morally shaming people who buy alkalines for legit reasons. You are not a superior human, you did not earn a badge for this comment.

It has nothing to do with who's better or worse. I just want lead acid batteries to stop going into landfills.

Alkaline batteries are only 1.5 volts for the first 15 minutes of use, they drop to 1.2 right after that. And rechargeable batteries actually top out at 1.5 as well, 1.2 is the lowest voltage before it needs to be recharged.

Thermostats nowadays should have another wire going to them to provide constant power and no longer require batteries. If you don't have or want to upgrade to that wiring method, they make thermostats with rechargeable batteries that use the power coming from the HVAC unit when it's on. If you don't like that either, then they also make batteries with an ultra thin wire coming out to connect to an AC outlet or larger rechargeable battery for around 16 bucks.

As for fire alarms, you should be replacing the whole alarm every 10 years because the sensor gets dirty. It's part of fire code now. They also make versions with non-removable batteries that last that full 10 years without needing replacements.

There's no reason for burning through a dozen single use batteries every year anymore. If anybody has any more complaints about rechargeables, I'd be happy to offer advice to avoid or fix issues
You remind me of the people who tell us to buy electric vehicles if we can't afford the gas prices .

I really loved these but they just disappointed me. Just found a pair massively leaking. Very upset. The best I've found so far are the best buy brand

I painted all my rechargeable batteries a bright neon pink color so the kids and GF would stop throwing them away. So far it's working. It's been a few years since any have gone missing.
I thought all rechargeable batteries were green.

Good info.

Rechargeables still too expensive for me. But I have a charger bought via SD.

For this price, I would get one pack and store for emergency.

I use rechargeable from Ikea, energizer or eneloop. Their discharge rate is really low and I use them on all of kids toys, high drainage electronic, led lights, drone, etc

I use throw away slow discharge on electronics like clock, mouse, keyboard,
etc.

But the retail price on them seems laughable. With dollar store, now being 1.25+tax per 4 or 6, and I dont need lot, this may be one option to keep some for emergency.

Ordered, of course they substituted it for Walgreens branded batteries. Is it worth the pickup?

These are good batteries. I have used them in a metal detector, electric door lock, in flashlights and in a radio over the past year+. I've never had any leaks, and they seem to last longer than many other batteries I've tried. If only some of the nearby stores had more than 2 packs to pick up, I'd drive to get some more of these.

These are the highest rated alkaline AA batteries by Consumer Reports. Only Energizer Ultimate lithium rated higher

Check the in store price. Mine had dropped to ~1.24 a pack for the AA. Had them refund the difference.

Thank you all for the leak warnings. But it's hard to believe any brand could leak more than Duracell. I just call them Duraleak now.

I am mostly rechargeable but for certain applications I use alkaline, currently have a few packs of Energizer Max which seem to have a good reputation for not leaking.

Over got a drawer of batteries including HF that is well over 2 years old and no leaks. 60% humidity summer and maybe 40% winter here.

Where do you live? Beachfront or high altitude? Not sure what else could affect that? Only other thing that comes to mind is to keep them in their packaging until use so they don't roll around and touch each other.

Everything in my house hates rechargeable batteries. I was changing thermostat batteries monthly instead of once a year.

And wifey can't tell the difference between rechargeable and disposable. One year she trashed about $40 worth.
Jesus that is maddening, my SO did similar one year. Some people are just programmed disposable, it's maddening when they live in your house!

If I go by her standards "things that require a tad extra thought and effort go in the trash" she should be replaced by now also 😁

Ordered 3 AAA packs for pick up, which got canceled. Then reordered and, turned on product substitution if unavailable, got 3 Walgreens branded AAA packs instead. Pretty great deal. Thanks
They did the same to me, are the Walgreen branded batteries any good? I couldn't find much info. Was planning to cancel.
