I don't know much about these at all. Only that per a previous SD thread that Ridge is the way to go because of the lifetime guarantee.

I presume the MAX battery is the future. I worth investing the $30 to do that route going forward. Is that a solid presumption?

Get the $139 deal with the Max tool and Max bat. This is the new circ saw. Their is a vid comparing many 6 1/2" circ saws and the new Ridgid has more power and cut faster than all of them.

btw - its only $20 moreSmilie

That saw is a real pain to use. The safety switch is extremely awkward and I found that the power of the saw was lacking.

I picked up this saw as the "free tool" in a bundle earlier this summer. It's really nice, definitely has a premium feel and solid performance. But if you can hold off for a while, there might be a chance to pick it up for (significantly) cheaper. This was the deal from this summer:

The saw was effectively about $60 which was a steal. Hopefully something similar comes along for Black Friday.

I hate left blade circular saws. If it's left blade, it's an automatic no, regardless of the deal. I have the Ridgid 18V 7 1/4" which is a blade right, and I've been very happy. I've used it a lot and nearly abuse it at times but it keeps going. I've had it for about 6 years. Maybe longer.

I say this because many new tool buyers aren't aware of the difference.

How is this vs the 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw (R8654B) ?
What blade size is more common?

7-1/4" is by far more common and have a larger selection, but you can most likely find what you need in a 6-1/2" these days.

Some like left, some like right, some dont care. Its easier to see the cut and blade alignment with a left blade if you are right handed. And the saw that has been around for 85 years, is still a popular saw today, and is considered "The saw that built America", is left blade. aka Skilsaw 77 btw - My 77 is over 35 years old and still a beast.

This Max Tool 6 1/2", the new version, will outperform the Octane and weighs less. Also, if you dont already have Octane bats, dont even consider an Octane tool.

Does either of these have an electric brake? I thought the latest models do, but I didn't see it in the product listing.

Doesn't seem too powerful but the color scheme looks like it matches with a Rebel X-Wing Fighter.

Lifetime service agreement**** big difference that people for some reason can't tell. It's only a free repair if it's due to their workmanship or a defect and it ends when the tool is unusable. They're solid tools but the warranty is only for 3 years, then theyre gonna charge you to repair it https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/lsa-warranty

Can confirm that this 6 1/2" saw does have a brake, and I would guess the 7 1/4" does too. It's probably so common on modern saws, it might not be listed as a feature anymore.

I have had zero issues with their warranty. I've used it 3 times on different products.
