I'd disagree. The blade size is too small for straight accurate cuts and it doesn't spin fast enough and can bind on simple 2x4's.

Unless your use case is very slim, skip this saw.
I've had the previous model, this size blade, for several years. It's OK. I do like having it around for cuts that aren't super critical. I've changed the blade once and use it several times per year. When something needs to look very clean I use my corded Makita. But I have enjoyed this saw and for $30 it's certainly fine for treehouse building, garage shelves, general DIY homeowner-grade stuff.

edit: ryobi sells a t-guide that works with a lot of models - my circular, my jigsaw, etc. this def helps straightness. I also frequently clamp guide boards to my workpiece to keep this thing straight.
I mean, you're correct. But that DeWalt isn't anywhere near $30, is it?

Agreed. After a tiny amount of research, 7 1/4 seems by far the way to go. This sale model will likely be unable to handle a task sooner than you'd think.

If you actually had a need for straight accurate cuts on a 2x4, you would never be looking at this saw in the first place; you probably already have a better saw.

This would be good for a homeowner that just needs very occasional cuts, probably not for construction purposes. I'm considering this saw just because it's cheap, but I realistically don't even need it. For rough cuts, I have a reciprosaw that is also used for tree branches, etc.

Tip: on those rare occasions I need lumber cut square, it's quicker and easier to just have it cut at the Home Depot or Lowes at the time of purchase.

When I upgraded to the Dewalt 6.5" circular saw it was a night and day difference. Plenty of power, straight & accurate and a larger throat plate. I did the same things I was doing with the Ryobi 5.5" and there was no comparison. The ryobi couldn't cut sheet goods even with a straight edge and doing a quick trim off a 2x4 for a project was causing the ryobi to bind. The dewalt has handled all of that and more.

The 7 1/4" models are usually more preferred and common but that dewalt 6.5 is the perfect in between size.

Again, even for the most simple tasks, I really wouldn't recommend this saw, even at this price.

I bought this about a week ago when this price first popped up. It was great for cutting some 1/2 ply for a small project. Light weight, comes with a blade, and cut pretty fast for such a small blade. It's perfect for me having only a few small projects a year and a few Ryobi batteries on hand. If you've got a bigger project or would use it often I can see how one of the larger more powerful models would be worth it

Based on the reviews I would probably take the gamble based off the price. Reviews are both good and bad. A lot more favorable reviews then negative but the poor reviews do echo the sentiments of the above comments. I believe Home Depot has a generous return policy and if that is true I think this might just be a good gamble.

I disagree with your disagree.

The use case for this is plywood And occasional rough cutting of 2x4s. You can bring this with you to the parking lot to cut down sheets of plywood when home despot's panel saw is broken

And then of course cutting 2x4s, where most of the time it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect this works great. Just clamp a triangle /speed square to get a pretty dang straight cut

For 30 bucks even for these slim use cases, it's completely worth it.

This should certainly not be the only saw you own, but it can't hurt to be one of them for the price

I have this with a Diablo blade and I have done a lot of rough cutting of plywood and lumber with no problem. I think the key is replacing the stock blade. I would buy this for this price again.
