I use mine 99% as an air fryer. Being so wide and flat makes it a bit easier to use than a basket type design that is made to look like an oil deep fryer. Takes more counter space though.
I put aluminum foil between the bottom grill and the air fryer basket. Both are ceramic coated (a big selling point for me) so clean up reasonably well, but the bottom grill piece has those ridges that are difficult to clean between. Since it does not heat the bottom grill element on the air fryer setting, it doesn't matter if I have the aluminum foil there.
The top, inside the hood, is steel and you have the usual problems cleaning it when you make stuff that splatters oil everywhere. You can't soak that part in the sink. You can't seal it at super high temps like a self-cleaning oven. I don't really want to use harsh grease cutting chemicals in there. I do my best with a sponge and some soap and just accept that there will be some grease up there, and some areas around the heating element and shield that I will never be able to reach to clean.
Two design issues that I've heard and are totally true, but not deal breakers for me.
The bottom grill plate slants a bit forward by design, so grease drains into a reservoir molded into the aluminum. But, some cooking items will slide forward, especially with that large fan blowing around them. It depends on how heavy and large the items are. Some people have put a little shim under the front of the unit to correct the angle. I mostly air fry anyways.
The other issue is that after you're finished cooking, you naturally leave the oven open to let it cool off. What happens though, is that grease on the top hood slowly drops down the back of the hood and you get grease on your counter and on the hinge. So let it cool closed or think about a tray.

oven cleaner and it got the job done. So, you are saying spray this with Dawn power wash and then rinse it, to keep the upper part clean?
do you still have the coupon?
