Small Engines For Less via Ebay has the Poulan Pro 11HP vertical shaft riding mower new replacement engine for $271.95 plus $50 shipping for a total of $321.95. Has electric start, 15A charging output, 1" x 3-5/32" shaft. Does not include muffler. Probably best for mowers with a 38" cut or less at this power rating, although the same seller has the 16HP version for $411.00 shipped.

Replacement Notes: Engines of this type have a standardized bolt pattern for mounting to the mower frame. This 11HP engine has no integral fuel pump and is designed for gravity fuel feed (fuel tank level higher than carburetor). If needed, a crankcase pulse operated diaphragm type fuel lift pump can be easily added. The 16HP version has pressurized lubrication system with oil filter. These engines are manufactured by Loncin for Poulan, and arrive complete (less muffler) and ready for installation.
