ZIPAIR Tokyo is Japan Airlines' low cost international brand. A few differences between ZIPAIR Tokyo and Japan Air:
ZIPAIR Tokyo configure their Boeing 787 in 3 x 3 x 3 seating configuration vs Japan Air's 2 x 4 x 2 seating configuration
ZIPAIR Tokyo's legroom is 31″ vs Japan Air's 33″ – 34″
ZIPAIR does not include anything with the fare besides the seat – everything is extra from carry-on, seat assignment and checked luggage. This will range from anywhere between $45 and $130 each way depending the options you pick.
But price is still better than other airlines even if you add on bags/seat assignment etc. But legroom could be an issue for some.

I think I saw that same review; she mentioned a few times that cancellations were not allowed. On ZipAir's website, they state you can cancel within 24 hours of making your reservation, but no changes/cancellations can be made for flights to/from the following:
"Tokyo = Taipei, Bangkok, Singapore, Honolulu, San Jose, Los Angeles" (and vice versa)
No Refund
However, on an individual basis, if the customer ends up not traveling and the company (ZIPAIR) does not pay the airport fees and/or other government taxes, the applicable amount will be refunded to the customer."
It's a great fare, but confusing; I'll wait until I have definite travel dates and watch for reviews.

I look at one statistic: How many people got to their destination safely on an airline. All other metrics are irrelevant to me as a 'bad day' for me is 1000x better than most humans best day.

Just make sure to get yourself some food and drinks at the airport before boarding.
