Damn, there's a lot of hate for meat-alternative products in this thread. Yeah, it's more expensive, and doesn't taste exactly like meat. Generally, I do like eating real beef and chicken, but sometimes, I just want something with less cholesterol and less environmental impact than beef. Might not be the healthiest, especially on the sodium side, but it's still better than its meat counterpart. That's why I don't mind eating it once in a while.
Have you actually tried the beyond orange chicken at panda express? I thought it was quite good.
It's not supposed to be a healthy alternative. It's for people who just don't/can't eat meat. So probably not for you.

I'll pass, tried the Beyond Orange Chicken last week, family member won't eat chicken, so tried it, it was inedible, dry & very hard, everybody who tried it couldn't eat it.
And now you understand why they need to gaslight you and give it to you for free.

Just go to Costco and get a 1.50 hot dog with free drink. Done and done. Or get the $4.99 rotisserie chicken. That is good for at least 2-3 meals. Done and done.

I tried Panda for the first time in about 10 years this week. The chicken was the worst chicken I've had in my life. For the 2nd time in my 52 years I did a negative survey. Yep, it was a once in 25 years horrible experience.

This is pretty good, but $10 for one of these bowls is a crime. 2 barely filled me up.

Just finished it for dinner. We got the beyond as well as normal orange chicken. I liked it, but I don't really like their normal orange chicken. I liked the beyond better. The real crime is "super greens." One broccoli and a bunch of cabbage...

No it's not better than is meat counter part. It's not healthy nor is it environmental healthy. In fact it's the same or worse depending on the crop. Plus it's dumb to replicate it. If you wanted an alternative you'd be better off eating a vegetarian substitute in a more natural state not processed. Yeah it won't taste like chicken but it would be healthier than this crap.

I'm not sure if you read it right. I never said it was healthy. I said it wasn't healthy. I did mention that it contains no cholesterol. As someone with high cholesterol, this is better for me than chicken or beef due to their cholesterol levels. I did state that it's not healthy in other areas like sodium, and I'm pretty sure other categories too, but it just depends on what you're measuring.

Regarding environmental impact, specifically beef, are you saying the methane produced throughout the life cycle of cattle for the equivalent amount of artificial meat is not as bad as imitation meat?

Neither the authentic chicken or Beyond Chicken entrées are particularly healthy--like most offerings at Panda Express.

Indeed more sodium, 10% more on an equal portion basis.

7% more fat which is typical of many near meat products. Beyond Orange Chicken has more saturated fat (11%) than its real chicken counterpart, and more significantly, almost ½ the protein of the real chicken entrée (on an equal wt basis).

Meat alternative? Gee, wonder what that is. OH, THAT'S RIGHT. Beans and grains. Just like the Indians have been eating for centuries in their largely vegan diet.

In what way is it better than it's meat counterpart?
