I too can confirm this works at Costco Gas. On Saturday I did a small test fill up of $21.60. Below are the posted reward points:
+ Bonus on purchases at gas stations - 173
+ 2% Back at gas stations - 43
Total Amazon Rewards points - 216 (This is 10% reward)
If it is random, then they are idiots at marketing. If not random, then they are evil bigots. Neither reflects well on their brands.
you don't need an mba these days to head up a marketing program; they probably wouldn't even know how to effectively execute a target marketing promotion. initiating a random marketing campaign costs $0 and zero skills and likely gains just as much support (or participation) as an overly expensive, time consuming target marketing campaign that simply doesn't work as well in 2022.
my opinion is they are trying to act like discover but show they can double the reward. but who can spend $1,500 of gasoline in a quarter? that's $125 a week and most of us don't even drive to work any longer. gas station promos should come in the summertime when people travel on vacation and gas prices are high.
I think the key phrase is Merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category. I'm going to assume then that this does not include grocery store gas or wholesale clubs (e.g., Costco, Sam's, BJ's).
The examples provided I think only add to the confusion: "truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies" would be a perfect place to list something like a grocery store chain since that would be the most common question people would have.
I'm curious to know, if you activate this deal a few hours after buying gas today (10/05/22) does the deal count towards that purchase, since the terms show 10/01/22 to 12/31/22 are counted? I did not see or know about this deal in time and 3 hours after buying gas today I activated the deal via the web link and it was successful for the Amazon Prime Rewards (Chase) card that I did buy gas with, the charge is still pending on that credit card of course. I'm curious to know if other people that have used this deal in the past had the bonus points retroactively applied for a gas purchase in that timeframe like mine. Thanks!

Does that include Walmart?
