It's correct that the 2017 Fire HD 10 has 2 GB, whereas the 2018 Fire HD 8 has 1.5 GB.

For the 2018 HD8, see this prior frontpage thread and my specific instructions post within that thread. XDA links, youtube links, and my added commentary.

For the 2017 HD10, here are the instructions [xda-developers.com] on XDA (I have not tried the HD10). And recent posts in that thread from 2022, on page 74, linked to another/alternate set of instructions [xda-developers.com] here.

The ads are on the lock screen. They're not intrusive and you don't have to look at them at all when you're using the tablet. The screen shuts off after not being used, so they're only there for a few seconds. Not really a problem for most people.

LineageOS available which is important but only 1GB of ram which is very underpowered these days.

Whoa wait a sec, some spec listings say the 2017 10.1 was 1920x1200 with 2GB of ram

Can do this twice.

Pay $24.99 for HD 10 (2017) trade in for $30 and Pay $14.99 for HD 8 (8th gen) trade in for $25. After Tax net profit should be around $12 x 2 = $24. Make sure to select refurbished when doing trade in.

Alternately, you could buy it and then trade it in to upgrade to a new 2020 HD 8 for about $2 more OOP during Prime's Early Access sale on Oct 11th and/or during Black Friday sales.

This is not counting taxes or Electronic recycle fees.
