This has also been replaced by the edge explore 2 in the garmin lineup. That said it is a pretty good price for what it is and I am still considering one.

What would be the advantage to this over just using Google maps on our smartphone? Google maps can route based on biking and you can also save maps for offline use.

Decisions, decisions - this or the Edge 530 for $140 (or the Edge 1030 for $280). I do enough climbing that the 530 with a barometric altimeter makes more sense, but the big display of the Explore for the killer price makes me tempted to ignore that factor.

I -ride 2-3 times a week for about an hour; I've used the Cyclometer app on my phone for several years with no real complaints (no battery issues). Is there any other reasons I should consider this?
