Don't all the power companies already have smart meters?
Where you can get usage by hour.
We have FPL and already get "estimates".

Looks like this item only "guesses" at what power is being used by individual appliances?
Just like what the power company already does..for free

In order to determine actual usage you would need to tap each individual breaker or outlet to appliance.
making this pretty useless.

Looking at the install video I laughed as it requires to open the breaker panel.
Huge majority of people on this site have never opened it up let alone install a breaker...
Hire an electrician and you will be at $400-$500 (plus all the sensors)

Time to recoup that amount in "savings" ? most likely never as this will become outdated rather quickly.

This appears to be a rebranded Sense unit, and does use the Sense app.

Supposedly it's the same piece of hardware, just rebranded… but I've looked before and couldn't confirm. It's unclear if this is like when big box stores get a blender, change a little piece and sell with a store part number. If there are subtle differences then any update routes are shot.
Seems like a gamble, that's why I haven't jumped in the past.

Lived in several states recently but I have not had any of my utility companies tell me how much my stove or refrigerator individually was using. Is that a thing now?

It's 100% the same hardware, just with a white/green case. Schneider (Parent company of Square D and Wiser) had made an investment into the Sense company.

The apps function identically, but with a different theme. It's not a Home Depot/Big Box store thing.

They started selling the Wiser model after I had already purchased a Sense. Just for consistency in my load center, I would prefer to have the Square D branded unit, but it works as intended.

For the ultimate in using this as a slick deal, if you pay attention to the results with your sense, you can figure out which appliances are causing you the highest bills. After my first year, I was able to start targeting individual appliances costing me the most money. One of my fridges was so bad, the ROI on the new fridge was only 18 months.

It uses the same app and pretty much exactly the same as sense

i bought one to play with, mostly because i like data, not because i think it's going to save me anything... much like the 5 Ecobees (i got them from free-20$ each through energy company promos) in my house, they don't save me any money, they're just a nice thermostat with data.

i guess the real question will be, is the firmware version the same as what Sense has as the latest build on their website... if not, it'll go back, because that means something is special and tied to SquareD.

the draw to Sense is the AI/learning ability... which in all honesty seems questionable as all hell from the reviews Wink but technically, it's possible it could work. everything has a "signature" when it turns on/off, if Sense did their AI effectively it should be able to identify those signatures, even in a dense environment.
does it work well? i've no idea, i doubt it honestly... that's why i'd buy from HomeDepot or Amazon, so i can return easily when it's garbage Wink

the Emporia looks fine, but man, who's got that kind of space in their panel..? i know i don't. 16 current clamps would be such a mess... there's no smarts, it just monitors each breaker, so in theory the Sense "should" give you more detailed information (which again, i doubt is done well enough.)

I've installed 2 wo issue. I'm not having a beauty contest in there. Seeing second by second detailed allowed me to identify draws like a heated bidet seat or calculate cost to drain and fill my hot tub on a circuit by circuit level. To each their own but I'd rather have the data and deal with a more advanced install.

yup... OCD is a bitch dude Wink
i'll give the clean sleek unit a try first, see how it goes. like i said several times, i doubt they did it well enough to function as it should.

FWIW... i've had an Aeotec ZWave Home Energy Monitor in my panel for years, works well enough and can output data every second. i could easily mine the data and pump it into a database on my server, then create webpages for data consumption. same data as the base Emporia unit, obviously the dedicated breaker monitoring would be nicer.

Harsh but true. It would benefit people that have Peak and TOU electrical pricing schemes. A better monitor would be the Emporia Vue Monitor on Amazon.

I have both Emporia and Sense. You can't say one is better than the other. They work differently.

Anyone able to replicate the deal recently? I've clicked through to both Home Depot and Lowes a few times over the past days, and see pricing about $100 more than posted.
