Also, there are many reviews commenting on the poor quality cable. It is at least detachable though, which means it can be replaced.

I would say...kinda. if you're looking for like a solid noise reduction for gigs, the flapper gills style earplugs that swimmers use that you get in CVS/Walgreens work wonders. If you're willing to spend a bit more, Happy Ears is a solid option (I think they're a Swedish company but they do ship to the US)

The ER3SE are better than HF3 by far. Much more high resolution and detailed sound with better treble extension. The ERS3SE are only second to the most premium ERS4SR bc they aren't tuned to match the frequency spectrum to 1dB difference in the left/right drivers. Which isn't something that dramatically affects the sound anyway.
It depends on your own preference. Etymotic is known to be very lean on bass but have a very neutral, almost clinically detailed sound. Airpods will have more bass punch and a wider soundstage, but will lack the clarity and instrument separation of ER3.
