My water meter is under the sidewalk outside my house's area (there's a lid to open it). Does everyone else have it in a similar location and is that where the Flume needs to be installed?

Yes. It's a disgusting pit filled with creepy crawlies and spider webs. That's why the Flume 2 includes gloves.

After i strapped it onto my meter, I pulled a 1 gallon ziplock bag over it and used the extra rubber strap to secure it so that disgusting bugs could not crawl into and all over the Flume module. Just make sure the water meter reader person can still read the meter. Every few months, he shifts the module when he is reading the meter and that results in a notification that the module was moved and has to be adjusted.

the city has had something similar to this on our meters for about 5 years now. you log into the portal and configure your level of email notifications. they just recently updated the device on the meter. its pretty sensitive they can tell when you flash the low flow toilets and if you do a quick flush for pee or a full flush for shit. laugh out loud

also, they can tell when people water their yards on their non-watering days.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Residential water use only makes up 6% of water use. 8% is commercial use. The other 86% is for agriculture.
32% of it is to grow cattle feed for the US and other countries.

I hate that they want us 6% to conserve instead of focusing on the 86%.

I have had my Flume 1 for several years and still going strong - need a cheaper upgrade
Same here, been using Energizer Lithium AA batteries and lasts long time, don't see any reason to upgrade yet…

Awesome, now the city can cut your power and your water off at a whim.
Does the city have access to your data? My understanding is that it's an app that only you have access to.

Beware that the proprietary battery that you have to buy from Flume for 14.99 only last a month or two. I had the Flume 1 which uses 4 AA Lithium batteries and last only about 6wks, ($12) each replacement. Good price if the batteries lasted a year.
I will have to disagree on your 1st gen comment, I have one mow for over 3 years and although you are partially correct, regular batteries only last a few weeks but once I switched to Energizer Lithium they last 6-8 months, found this out from the comments on Amazon

They want EVERYONE to conserve, not their fault to stop listening after your name was called.

This link says you are 137% wrong about your percentages and that youtube doesn't count as "research."

https://www.usgs.gov/mission-area...-water-use

More fun graphs for the 'do your own research crowd.'

https://www.epa.gov/watersense/how-we-use-water

BTW, are you really suggesting that 86% of water used in Los Angeles is going to "agriculture?" I don't recall too much agriculture within the city limits but maybe I missed the massive corn fields outside of Dodger's Field. LOL.

And who wants to be that 86% figure takes into account water NOT coming from public sources but private wells which have zero to do with the amount of water in city reservoirs...which this device is meant to monitor?

Just get an AC/DC converter and Wala plug-in, and forget about it.

Wish ever water district here in California would get onboard and make these water meters affordable, hoping this pricing and rebate some to my area.

I like the idea, but you need a water meter to use it?
