I recently got rid of my LS50s (I know these are metas but I've tried both the difference isn't drastic) after ownership of almost 3 years running them using a mcintosh power amp. Although these speakers in general hit above their price bracket, they definitely have unique sound. To me honestly they were flat but fatiguing to listen to. After 30-40min of listening I'd feel my ears would hurt. They have a bit of "shouty" midrange that can but less desirable for some people. Not to mention its very important that they be run using clean class A or Class AB amps, Class-D amps from receivers and low power amps will make this sound thin and shrill.

All in all, if you are open to experiment, go for them, but if you have doubts, its okay to pass on these till you can audition in person/have the right amplification.
Not sure why OP is getting trolled...I'm not in the market for these but maybe somebody is; this is in fact a DEAL according to amazon price history unlike a lot of the garbage that's posted here.
Confused as well. This is a good price for these, I was in the market for high end speakers last month and never saw them this low.

Gorgeous speakers. Solid brand. Specs look like you can drive them reasonably hard, but don't need an insane amount of watts to get a large sound.

Audiophiles and subwoofers don't belong in the same sentence. Subwoofers are for surround systems. Go with floor standing speakers if you want extended bass in a real audiophile stereo system.
In an ideal world, you'd have all matching full range speakers that go sub 10hz. Being that those are probably 20k each, you're better off getting some solid full range speakers that all match (let's say a solid dB rating down to 20 or 30 hz). Plus 2 subwoofers to help you down to the 10-12 hz range (granted it's mostly pushing air at that point). 1 subwoofer in that range is also likely plenty.

I personally have a pair or the Def tech full range towers that have the built in subs. Plus 3 Def tech full range bookshelves (solid 30hz dB level) for my center and two front wides. And 2 Def tech speakers I have for my surround (same woofer size and front wides/center, and matching tweeters). Plus 2 Def tech atmos speakers that attach to the front full range speakers.

As I'm a nice neighbor, I haven't quite used my outlaw audio subwoofer. Even though I snagged a subdude and 4 rubber hemispheres (each to reduce vibration like 95%).

Everything is also drive by a Denon x-6200W so I have a nice sound stage imo.

That being said - I still think these could be audiophile level speakers for the right situation. Pair these in a nice stereo setting for a great sound.

I second this. I loved LS50 and hated at the same time for my struggle to pair with proper amp.
That's why i traded them for LS50 wireless. Highly advise to audition wireless version. KEF ultimately nailed SQ with LF: Class D and HF: Class AB amplification. But at the same time KEF fail at their app for wireless part. It does sux big time.
Be able pickup wireless 2 open box at BB for $1600 look like new and add sub KF92. Sound like full range speakers.

Don't cheap out on speaker cables (depending on length, don't buy stupidly high priced $150+ cables either). Get thick wire gauge and not too much extra length since signal degrades the longer the cable.

Equally good dac and amplifier is just as important. Play lossless files instead of mp3. Setup will only be as good as the worst part of the chain

Is 16AWG good enough for runs less than 15Meters ?

I have been enjoying their active version (LS50WII) for a year now and I'm truly amazed by their sound. Depending on the size of your room and the kind of music you enjoy, you might or might not need an extra subwoofer.
In any case, the Meta is where I'd start from if I wanted to build a very strong Hi-Fi system. Just make sure you research about proper amplification.

I'm a long time KEF fan, use a set of kef reference for my living room and would love these for my computer desk but they are going to be a bit too big and I wouldn't do them justice with my small Denon pma50 dac/amp

Depends on room size. They sound amazingly clean but they can't play loud enough for a large room full of people.

I'm a noob when it comes to speakers. The only decent speakers I've owned was a pair of B&W DM601. How would these KEF speakers compared to the new 606 S2 Anniversary Edition ($999)?
