It depends on the ingredients used and the concentration of fragrance. Of course, brand name too, but it's name on the bottle gives an indication. Also, if its been discontinued for years and was very popular, the price can get up there.

Understand the size you are buying people. 1.7ML is about the size of those little samplers you get for free in those matchbook looking cardboard holders.


CORRECTION
That needs to be changed it's 1.7 FL Oz. about half the size of your average bottle.

oud wood is the most expensive wood in the world. Clearly they are still making a hefty premium but that would be the justification for it. It does smell really good.

The bigger issue with all of the European house scents is the EU laws that stopped letting them use certain ingredients that helped immensely with how long a scent lasted. Pretty much every formula needed changed after that went into effect. The sad reality is that most reformulations ended up being weaker because of these laws.

I haven't found anything that really matches Terre D'hermes as far as clones go.. but the original can be had for cheap(er) online at discounters compared to retail. Amazon will get you a 200ml bottle for $114 right now (shipped/sold by Amazon) which is quite large, smaller bottles will go for less on sites like Jomashop
