Costco does have a Kenmore top-loader set that's almost as good for the same price. I didn't go through feature by feature, but this set has one fewer dryer cycle and two fewer washer cycles than the one in the OP: https://www.costco.com/kenmore-5.2-cu.-ft.-top-load-washer-and-electric-7.4-cu.-ft.-dryer-with-sanit... [costco.com]

Or there's this LG set, which is also $999.97 in white (the gray version is out-of-stock and not discounted in my zip code): https://www.costco.com/lg-5.5-cu.-ft.-top-load-washer-and-7.3-cu.-ft.-electric-dryer-with-turbosteam... [costco.com]. Consumer Reports assigned the washer the same score as the related WT7900, in second place with an overall score of 83, with a score of 5 (top) in predicted reliability, washing performance and water efficiency and 4 in energy efficiency but only a 3 in gentleness (like most top-loaders) and noise. The dryer got the same rating as the related DLEX7900, with a 5 in reliability and a 4 for drying performance, convenience and noise, for an overall score of 87. Your mileage will likely vary depending on your zip code.

Good point. I don't see an electric dryer set available on Costco.com. Maybe already clearanced out? The "sibling" Whirlpool model is available but looks to be significantly more expensive.

we bought this set a couple of weeks ago. No complaints from the wife. This will be the 2nd price adjustment for us which makes the deal even better.

Good find Kenmore is usually whirlpool . The last set of Kenmores ran for well over a decade without problems and seen some heavy use . Things are being made cheaper these days but I will buy Kenmore without question.

I can confirm, this dryer looks identical to the whirlpool I just bought a couple weeks ago

And if you need or prefer a gas dryer, you can get the equivalent LG set for the same price in gray, but the white set is $400 more. https://www.costco.com/lg-5.5-cu.-ft.-top-load-washer-and-7.3-cu.-ft.-gas-dryer-with-turbosteam.prod... [costco.com]

I just bought the agitator version and was feeling bad that I didn't see the deal on SD and the reviews were pretty ordinary. So thought of returning this. I already got it price matched. Now this makes me feel better. Even the agitator model and the electric dryer are the same 999.97 price point.

Saw this too. Is the LG one better or this? I have solar panels at home and bought this because I'm at least generating some electricity at home?

There are differences between brands and models of dryers, but they're not nearly as pronounced as differences between washers. And CR stopped testing gas dryers because there's no performance difference between them and equivalent electrics.
