Big difference: one of those is available and ready to ship (the Onn), the other is not. Yeah, there are a lot of good deals from time to time, so the question is how long you're prepared to wait, or shop, once you're ready to buy. (I'm not pushing the Onn, just bought my second TCL, and looking for the right cheap 43".)

They are both available and ready to ship, but the TCL is not on sale anymore.
I bought this last year for around this price to stick next to my hot tub outdoors. So far it has survived one new england winter (sheltered) and is still ticking. Can't complain.

How is the speed of the interface/menus? I have one of those cheap Onn stream boxes, and its surprisingly quick compared to older/cheap Roku devices (which can get unbearable). How is the sound? (not expecting much)

Speed is totally fine. Comparable to a TCL Roku if you have one. Sound is acceptable, obviously not home theater quality but it doesn't sound harsh or tinny. Don't expect much power of course. Ultimately I had to use an external amp and hanging speaker setup to hear the TV over the hot tub jets, but this is not a normal use case.

In fact, 43" 4k LEDs have been popping up around this price lately.
Like this TCL from Target for $149: https://slickdeals.net/f/16076212-oct-6-oct-8-target-deal-days-tcl-43-4k-uhd-hdr-smart-roku-tv-43s45-target-149-99?attrsrc=sear
