The hassle for a lot of people is more of finding one, hoping it is a good one, ordering it, etc rather than installing it on the SSD.

I always wondered why they didn't make the nvme install itself toolless when they standardized the M.2 connector like memory instead of requiring a screw.

No need.

Read description.

"Low profile graphene aluminum heat spreader"
The heat spreader they put on these drives won't be sufficient for PS5. They're paper thin and only meant to reduce heat from short read/write bursts. After a few seconds, even in a well ventilated PC case, these gen 4 drives will thermal throttle. The PS5 has essentially no airflow to the SSD, so it's the worst case scenario for SSD heat dissipation. You need a real heat sink for the PS5, unless you're using a gen 3 drive, in which case you can only play PS4 games off of.

I did not try myself but I guess he did. At that time the drive was ~$190.

Kingston doesn't seem to get the major large retailers for a lot of their stuff. Either they have low volumes to supply them or their margins aren't enough to accommodate the large discounts big retailers want. I don't think this is out of choice.
The marketplace sucks.. you have amazon, newegg, microcenter, mayve ebay then lesser resellers of no consequence. Retail colludes to offset risk of consumer declines in demand. The one place they are taking a bath in is GPU... they priced themselves out of consumer graces...

Would this be a good upgrade for. Legion laptop? Wondering about the heat and the power draw vs. a Samsung 980 Pro. It has been hard to find recommendations for laptops, instead of PS5 and Desktops.

I have a 5pro lenovo and put a Hynix Gold P31 V3 1gig in mine. It is a very efficient/cool running ssd. It also crushes most others in Benchmarks for speed. Couldn't be happier. No wrap or heat synch and it runs just fine!! You can find it on sale for low $80's about every couple weeks.
PS> just be careful taking the screws out of a Lenovo laptop. They easily strip. Make sure to have the proper screwdriver head on it(google it).

So the Xbox one is more than double the price of this. It's ironic that none of MS consoles have offered off the shelf PC HDD to do upgrades.

on a complete sidenote - does anyone know why silicon power is banned from sd?! I tried posting a few deals and the admin did not know why it is banned but since it is, my post was removed...
I had a couple sata ssds from SP years back. Housing was def flimsier than other similar drives. Then one failed within a year and I rma'd it for a replacement. Within 6mo the replacement failed and they hassled me when I tried to obtain another. That's when I swore I would never buy another Silicon Power drive.
