aldi's always has this size pizza around $3
Can't get behind the more expensive other name brands like freschetta or Digiorno for their price points, but Red Barron and Tombstone get no complaints from me.

Fuel, commodities, distribution (see fuel), and retailers always squeezing the supplier. On top of that inflation in general. You should know that grocery stores barely make above 2-3% profit in the grocery aisle. In general, you aren't paying much more than what the retailer is selling it for (when it comes to grocery). It's the home goods, health/beauty, and electronics where the money is made. Even those have loss leaders (look it up).

personally i buy the aldi's 28oz cheese pizza as
i find that's the least per oz cost for rising crust.
i'm sure tombstone is better tasting, but i don't
have the freezer space to stock up during a sale.

They purchased it in 2010 along with Jack's and other brands. I am not sure if the rest of your info holds up considering the timing is wrong.
