According to the representative, this is because TIV_normal is processes as a GC and it has to be applied after the checkout, so the tax is charged on that part. Don't know if this is all true to CA or other states.

1. Go to the "Order Details" page for your order on bestbuy.com. This page likely says "Shipping Kit on its way" for the trade in status.
2. Open Developer Console in Chrome. Navigate to the "Networks" tab and reload the page.
3. Search for "trade" in the search box.
4. You should see 3 results - the third begins with "2002..." for me. Click on this one.
5. Click on "tradeInStatusInfo" -> "fulfillment" -> "tracking".
You will see the tracking number of the return shipping UPS label. You should also see a "isBoxShipped" field that likely reflects if your trade-in kit has shipped yet.

Was expecting full $899+tax refund back but they only gave me $699+tax back cause their systems deducted $200 for the promo gift card - which had been sent to me already.
Did not send in my P6 trade-in yet so this should have been a no brainer.

Also, let me know what happened with this issue. I may be in the same boat. I don't want to be stuck with the Bestbuy GC when I return an open box phone (that I bought without trade in) to try the phone.

I can see the only way out is talking to a store manager (hopefully the manager understands and willing to help out) to do a manual override for this.
I don't have much hope for this as well considering Best buy's un-customer friendliness and most people who work there are either moron's OR have attitude.
