Back in the day, I had subscriptions to Sound & Vision, Home Theater Mag, Stereophile etc. I'm familiar w/ the methods used to analytically measure/quantify specs and throw "real world" scenarios at a receiver. Basic concepts like quality toroidal transformers, individual amp modules w/ dedicated power supplies, shielding, thicker gauge cases etc. do make a difference to an extent. It's what the Pioneer Elite, Sony ES and higher Denon/Marantz models employed, for their $1k+ models.

As w/ any subjective opinions, such as wine or other things, if it's good to you, that's all that matters. As some have noted, wattage/power is relevant as far sound pressure levels relating to the efficiency of your speakers and the size of your room. If you're in an apartment/condo, no sense in trying to create theater-level sound levels. Good enough is good enough.

My rants are simply an effort to point out to anyone interested, the value proposition of recent models and where they focus, and whether the value is there for some but not for others. If it's a fit, buy it.
Was at my costco early today and checked this very product. $499
And Woodlands wants $499 as well.

Couple Questions - I'll be coming from the AVR-1912 to this one but the AVR-1912 was 125W per channel whereas this is 75W per channel. Am I downgrading power wise? Obviously a lot has changed tech wise in 10 years so I think this would be an upgrade no matter over the AVR-1912. I recently got an LG OLED C1 65" and am in the process of replacing all the HDMI cables to the latest spec as well.

Since my AVR is located in a basement closet, what is the best way to calibrate these speakers - just run a long audio cable extension to the calibration microphone?
You are dropping power. The question is, will it matter? Most people send most bass output (the thing that takes most power) to a separately powered subwoofer. The mains and rears and center typically don't need that much power.

You can easily run the mic to the closet; it won't hurt things at all. The mic cabling is very long.

Local Costco shows $399. I compared spec with my S740h and don't see much improvement.

Kind of, yeah, lol. Found the display in my Costco yesterday. 3+ months after the .97 clearance pricing began, found the display on sale for $350 yesterday. And now they have it back in stock for delivery at regular 449
