Lenovo just adds the MSRP of all components to come up with their "retail" price. You'll never actually pay that. This is $1500ish normally and at $1k is a very good deal.

I'd rather buy my own larger drive than pay their inflated upgrade prices. I usually configure my new laptops with the smallest drive, pull it out before I even boot it, and pop a larger/faster drive in. This way you can literally make it "new" by putting the original drive back in if you ever sell it or donate it.

RAM is all soldered - a first for a non-s model in the T series. Even wifi/BT is soldered, which is unfortunate as it's Qualcomm rather than the much more reliable Intel.

The weight of 2.65 lbs is highly misleading - that's for the base configuration with the puny 39 Whr battery. Notebookcheck weighed theirs (with the same 52 Whr battery as here) at 3.2 lbs.

Adamantium alloy.
Jokes aside, Business laptops like Thinkpads are not just made of either metal or plastic like consumer laptops. Instead, they use varities of materials to make the laptop and make it more robust.

Swapping THINKOUT for THINK30ANNI will give a bigger discount FYI. And add ID.me if applicable. I was able to get this config under $1,000 and even added the smart card reader option that OP didn't spec.
