No disrespect but this is a really bad post along with your first one.

I have no reason to disbelieve you but without sources, it is hard to believe the extent of what you are saying. Or judge whether you are spreading FUD intentionally or otherwise.

The models you listed earlier have very different NAND chips MLC and TLC, so it is unlikely a NAND production error. They also have multiple controllers, so it is unlikely to be controller error.

Google search only brings up some forum posts and long deleted Reddit posts of anecdotal experiences that can exist for any SSD.

But you suggest several articles and have so far refused to back it up with sources.

Again, I am not saying you are necessarily wrong but credibility is not high for the claims or you could be mistaken in what you read or may have generalized or extrapolated too much.

Until there is some credible sources to check, your posts should be taken as an unsubstantiated rumor. This is the worst use of a user forum.

I have a 960 EVO I have been using for 5 years and a 970 Pro for 2 and have not had one single issue reported by SMART so perhaps there is specific lot# you can identify?

However, I am not sure how one refurbishes a device like this outside of blowing off dust.

No this is Gen3, you need Gen 4 for Ps5.

Also Samsung 970 evo plus, 980, 980 pro, and 870 line have had Reports of Defective NAND and such, just be aware of that. A lot of reports of sudden failing drives with errors in Samsung Magician leading to the drives becoming unusable, expect a RMA for a few batches of drives soon.

All the ones that I have bought have been low runtime and good. Great price. If you want to see the runtime and read and write when you buy it just download Crystal disk info. If you don't like what you see return it Smilie

Samsung is pretty much the most reliable SSD manufacturer on the market. Pay no attention to a few reports here and there, they make a TON

Yes which is why I'm confused what to do if these have random failures. Only SSD I've had die was an inland drive with less than 100 hours.

Samsung has fantastic warranty and makes top tier SSD for years. Inland drives have their uses but are basically bottom of the barrel budget shopper SSD. No disrespect to people who use them but there's no comparison

I believe Bestbuy also has decent warranty

On a serious note, how badly have refurbs been used? TBW? What did they do to refurb? What was wrong in the first place?

Ironically the only SSD I've had fail was a Samsung, and I've been pretty much exclusively Inland ever since 😆

Theres a defect with them thats only been recently brought to light sadly. They are still a gold standard, but expect quite a lot of RMAs with that batch Frown I still use a 970 Evo and 850 evo (so far from what ive seen its only the 970 evo plus and beyond) and the 870 Sata based ones that have this specific defect in the NAND. It was first reported with a decent amount of detail about a month ago, and if you actually use the Samsung magician software or one of those it does help to keep track. Its something to just be known about, and the more people know about the potential issue the better!

I will take that mental note

GeekSquad ( By far the least trustworthy Tech people in the US imo) generally just get open box drives and sel them as refurbs. They generally have low usage (under 10 TBW) although it does vary. Thankfully the Crytpo Chiacoin that destroyed these drives pretty much died a while ago so i dont expect it to be too bad.
