I had one of these for a few years. While it is slightly better than having no recording at all, the quality is just barely useable. Ie don't expect to get license plate numbers unless you stop right up behind a car (and even then it's a coin toss). The unit is also heavy enough that it wears at the bearings of the actual rear view mirror it attaches to, so after around a year and a half I had to replace my review view mirror with a new one.

YouTuber did a test of several dash cams, and came to the conclusion that video quality across the board is fairly similar, and only features really separate the low end from the high. I don't have any experience with this model so it may be particularly bad, but just wanted to throw this info out.

edit; I think even if it can't capture license info it might be better than nothing. It can still capture a wreck to show who might be at fault in case of conflicting stories.

i have a yada 1080p cam for a year (got on clearance for $12) and have been happy with it. it is in a car parked outside subject to summer heat and winter cold. i have had other more expensive dash cams (anker roav and xaomi yi) fail after about a year in the extreme temperature (stop recording, have sd card issues, need to be restarted mid drive, buttons stop working, etc.). i have not had any of those issues with my yada cam... yet...

however, i would probably avoid a cheap mirror dashcam as you are compromising your primary visibility with a cheap rear view mirror replacement, but i would recommend the other yada 720p cam (non rear view mirror) also available for $10 here https://www.walmart.com/ip/YADA-7...hbdg=L1300

most of the time you are not dealing with hit and run and legibility of license plate is not really a problem. most of the time you just need video of an accident to prove which party is at fault, especially if both parties are providing different stories. cheap dash cam is better than no dash cam. as long the cheap dash cam is reliability recording and save video, i'm generally happy.

While I don't disagree with Linus or the idea that any dashcam is better than none, he also only reviewed a select size sample and not a great size sample.

Some things to note from their product page https://letsyada.com/collections/...am-bt58361
  • The Yada RoadCam dash cam comes with a 4GB MicroSD card and supports up to 32GB.
While 32gb should be enough for 720P, some buyers here may prefer dash cams with larger storage support so they can keep a bigger archive.
  • Yada RoadCam has a built-in lithium-ion battery (150mAh) that powers on and records for 20 seconds after the G-Sensor is triggered.
A built in battery may cause issues with heat.

In the end, nothing could happen and this product can be a good option but I'd rather pay a little more for something with better quality and internals. When the cost is originally $20 MSRP and the price is cut down to $10, I'm just really concerned about this thing failing in less than a year or it will appear powered on and recording only to come home and find out the recording failed or nothing recorded at all during an accident.

I also like to have the wires tucked away so if I'm buying a dash cam, I'm getting something decent that I won't need to replace until a few years later.

People can buy what they want and do whatever with their car but I wouldn't cheapen out on electronics.

Had similar Yada camera like this but with a back camera too. Biggest issues is after 2 years it just broke would be stuck in a boot loop sequence forever. The camera quality is good enough to back out of a driveway. The front and main camera was basically there just in case you got in an accident that you could show whose fault it was. But in a hit and run situation chances are that license plate was unreadable. Night time quality really sucked.

Seinfeld episode would suggest caution. I don't know if I would trust a rearview mirror that only told half the story!

I bought one last time it was on sale. My major issue with is that it doesn't support mirror dimming. The glass is tinted blue but at night that isn't enough. Flipping the mirror to night mode just shows the roof of the car (and if you have auto dimming mirrors it won't help at all. You end up with extremely bright lights in your eyes at night.

Does it dimmer function? I got a dash cam mirror on Amazon for over $200 last time and it's a fixed mirror with no dimmer function, painful at night.
