Does anybody have experience using this with a thick phone cases? I have two other that are too short to reach the port though my s10+ life proof case. I need something for shooting long/wilderness trips that doesn't require removing the case--too risky as its prone to cracking.

Correct. It shows up as a separate drive on the iPad. In Files app, it's its own location.

My iPad is an iPad Mini 6, which has USB-C. iPad Pro's have USB-C. Older iPads and the newest base iPad 10.1" have Lightning connector. You would need an adapter to convert and the Lightning port is slower (but should still work for playing media).

Warning on this. I was excited when they first came out. But then very disappointed. I actually tried 3 different ones including the 256gb. Speeds are as stated when using a PC. But when I used them with my Galaxy S22 Ultra or my Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, both read and write speeds were around 45MBs when transferring large video files.

Look at the customer images submitted in the reviews section at the bottom of the Amazon page. Plenty of Crystal Diskmark scores >400MB/s.

Curious what you've used on the Tab S8 that has gotten super fast speeds via the USB-C?

Could it be transferring to the tablet was slow because the write speed of the tablet storage is slow, and then transferring to the this flash drive was slow because the writes are slow?

How did you measure? I have a Tab S8 I could try to replicate.

Solid explorer app shows the speeds. Also compared amount of time to transfer compared to other devices. I have a Samsung T7 portable SSD that will do 375MBs and also a Sandisk microsd in a usb-c adapter that will do 70MBs.

Blame the USB consortium for this. There is a chart somewhere that explains the speeds, but the fact is the USB consortium allowed them to advertise/rename to new USB standards no problem.
The issue is you can use:
* USB 3.0
* USB 3.1 Gen 1
* USB 3.2 Gen 1
All interchangeably because they all stand for 5Gb/s.

USB 3.1 Gen 2 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 = 10Gb/s.
