Dji may get blacklisted in the states due to national security reason that being said if they do go thru with the blacklist the DJI app and software will be void in other words yall would have a brick drone. With the tension between U.S and china and Russia idk if this would be a good investment but the deal is solid but buy with caution ⚠️ and keep in mind anything can happen so buyer beware
The FCC chairman has discusses potentially adding DJI to the "covered list" under section 2 of the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019. That does not mean the "app and software will be void." It means that contractors using certain types of federal subsidies will not be allowed to use or purchase DJI products.

Huawei is the most well-known example of a company that has been added to that list, and regular American consumers can still easily purchase and use Huawei devices.

I have never used a drone. Is this a good one for starters like me with no drone experience? If not can you suggest me one for learning.

No need experience to play drone. It is just a fly camera...

Setting aside any personal opinions about ICE, if you read the actual memo, it sounds incredibly stupid. Basically attempting to spin normal marketing efforts like setting up a booth at trade shows and holding B2B sales events as "targeting law enforcement and critical infrastructure."

If you're worried about the security of the data on your phone, the easiest way to solve that is to factory reset an old phone you have lying around and use that exclusively for the drone. This has the benefit of also being a safer way to fly, since there will be no apps running in the background that could potentially cause an error or OS crash.
That doesn't address the facial recognition data and other points discussed in the article that should concern a consumer.

Claiming the potential collection of "facial recognition data" in a CAMERA drone is some nefarious plot is even sillier than the other crap in the memo.

Let's assume that DJI DID in fact want to collect facial recognition data for nefarious purposes… instead of using facial recognition to improve say autofocus (like every other modern camera that has autofocus). Their plot to do this is to collect America facial data from a DRONE????

Why???? That's the most needlessly complex conspiracy ever. Why do they need to grab a smorgasbord of facial data from a drone when they can just scour Facebook or the multitude of public websites that are easily accessible and which has names already attached to the faces.

That whole memo is just a bunch of scary sounding gibberish that anyone with basic technical knowledge can see is pure nonsense. I mean, a camera drone that potentially uses FACIAL RECOGNITION??? No way!!! Next you're gonna tell me the Chinese make cars that use GASOLINE. And I don't need to tell you gasoline can be used to make BOMBS!!! Very very suspicious if you ask me.

Bought this early this year brand new at Costco for about the same price when it was on sale. As far as someone saying DJI will get black listed and banned. Well good luck with that as many electronics are made in China. Just buy something and look where it's made on Amazon lol.

Also the bogus theory that China is using DJI drones to spy on us is hilarious!! Most drones only fly for like 15-25 mins tops per battery. What next, the food at Leann Chin is secretly spying on us next. Like Yoda said = fear will only lead you to the dark side.

Same price I paid in June. Was eyeing the mini3 at 3x the price but the shipping was delayed like 6 weeks so went with this.

I just use it to survey my property. Only regret is that it doesn't have onboard waypoint flying, so I need to be in like the middle of the property to make sure I am in range. And It struggles in light wind.

The mini 2 is a waste of money.
You can get a mini 1 (original) for a lot less on eBay and it's the same exact drone, only DJI nerfed it a bit in it's code so that they could release the mini 2 and say "look, even better!".

Either get the mini 1 if you're on a budget or save up and get the mavic mini 3. The 1 and 3 are both great drones.. the mini 2 you're basically paying way more for the mini 1 with slightly better specs.

Not a dji mini comment, but hoping enough quad enthusiasts are in here to answer this. I used to have a bugs mjx 3 I think it was, for fun stunt flying/messing around. Been years, but I'd like to get back into flying with something cheap, can handle moderate to high wind (if skilled enough), and has no altitude hold. Does anybody know if there is a quad/drone that has replaced the bugs 3 as sorta the best budget/entry level quad for that kinda flying? If not and it still holds that reputation, does anybody know of a good step up that would maybe be a bit of a step up in terms of speed, battery life, maybe even have fpv potential while still staying under $300? Use on a moderately windy day would still be a must. Thanks!
