They will never refund your card more than the original amount they charged to it. Any excess is store credit.
I'm not saying right now that it's going to happen, but only commenting that it could. Just saying that it is a possibility because I know that companies can issue a credit to a card independent of the original purchase.

At a physical brick and mortar store when they ask you during a refund process if you've got the original card I've actually just said yes and inserted a different card and the credit just goes to that card (did this the first time by accident). And I can't remember the exact details but I've been issued a refund higher than my original purchase price for an online order before. I remember being completely surprised that it happened, and that it was even possible, before just realizing that there doesn't have to be anything preventing it from happening. The merchant is just issuing a credit or refund to a form of payment.

So again, not saying that Google is definitely going to do it here, but that I can totally see it happening. They have my credit card/payment details. They promised me credit from a trade in. They can credit that account the amount they said. There is nothing I can find on the site that says anything about what happens in the instances we're discussing, though. Also, the transactions seem to be treated separately so I can totally see it happening.

I just skimmed through the previous deal with the gift cards to check and it looks like that's exactly the case. Someone just mentioned that at least one of the trade in phone options is now gone but otherwise I'd say this is a better deal since there's no gift card. Others will have to chime in as to whether or not the total elevated trade in value this time around is the same as the previous TIV + gift card amount but I'm interested in trading in my S22 Ultra and it's $900 value right now (for the lowest, 128gb storage option) whereas someone in the previous thread said they were getting $700 for their 256gb model - so in that case the TIV value here is already higher.

I had the Best Buy trade in all set and literally just got an email confirming that my phone is ready but that was going to be $246 out of pocket and a $200 gift card. Even then if I wasn't happy with the P7 I'd be paying a restocking fee. So I think I'm all in for this, instead.
Isn't Best Buy a better deal?

Two things: Best Buy won't process the trade if you get more trade in value than the phone you buy. So you have to get a phone that costs more than your trade and I want the regular Pixel 7. Second is that even if I got the 7 Pro I'd rather not have more money tied up in gift cards so I'll take the $900 Google treated as cash rather than $200 in gift cards. I do realize that Best Buy has the bonus of also not charging tax on the full amount as some of the trade in is deducted right away but still.

Now whether or not Google ends up giving excess trade in value as a full refund vs partially as store credit remains to be seen.

Does anyone know about the Fi referral program? Is that $20 referral a one-time bill credit or monthly credit of $20 until the end of service?

In my case Bestbuy is a better deal. I traded in Iphone 12 mini unlocked 256 GB for 510. But it was the same value traded in even if it was a 64 GB instead. DAMN.

My pixel 7, was basically discounted by $300, and then further discounted by 210 for the trade in values.
I paid tax on the $90 transaction.
The best part is there is no anxiety for waiting my pixel and /trade in device to be fully inspected.
So I ended up getting $100 BB giftcard for $98, by trading my iphone 12 mini 256 GB with ~1.5 year old battery for pixel 7. Whether this was a good decision is remain to be seen i suppose.

How the heck does a 128GB Pixel 6 have a higher trade-in value than the 128GB Pixel 6 Pro? ($490 vs $480)

I am with Verizon and have ATT s8+ broken screen which is not currently active on Verizon. Will getting Google trade in provide $700 value for that phone in Verizon device?

That is exactly what Samsung does.

My last two phone upgrades I did through them taking advantage of the high trade-in value, and you get the discount instantly. Used it going from S20 Ultra to S21 Ultra, then also trading a S21 Ultra to get a S22 Ultra.

They send you the new phone. You then have a few weeks to a month to send back your trade-in phone. If you do not send it in then they charge you the credit, or if you send something completely different than what you claimed, they will charge you the difference between what you sent and what you claimed.

Even when ordering a $1300 phone with $950-$1000 credit and discounts they trust the customers enough to send them a brand spanking new phone on the "honor system". There is no reason that Google cannot do this, they just choose not to.

Google has one of the worst trade in system available. Them charging upright is bad enough but they also send so many people the trade in kit late (or just never does until you contact them), so that people can't refund it if anything goes wrong. Why they send the trade in kit separately is mind boggling.

I really wish they would change their trade in system because the devices themselves are good. Samsung's trade in system is so much more efficient that Google's system looks pathetic.

so one random idiot says something on your tube because he had issue with a video call on telegram app, and he starts bashing the phone. no clarity if it was telegram app, what else he had running on phone nothing.

Its so easy to set narratives on social media by these so called influencers.
Read through multiple posts here of people receiving their phones and getting super hot while transferring data... That's not normal...

So, interesting data point for me. My TIV is more than total purchase price charged to my credit card. When I look at trade-in details, under the payment option in the receipt section it says "Google Store Credit". Whereas my last order, which the trade in was less than what was charged, it had my credit card.
Same, and for my 6a I traded an iphone 8 and got $385. PMed the 6a down to $349. Received $349 back to my card for the iphone 8 and got $36 in google store credit for the excess. This was like 2 days ago.
