I'm equally suicidal as I am just waiting on a certain price point for the 55" A95K. If you never hear from me again you know what happened to me....

Bought the Costco 55" a few months ago for same price. Excellent TV. Not dark nor hard to watch in a bright room. Very happy with my purchase. First OLED, can't wait for more 4K broadcasting.

That's fair. The matte screen is supposed to help with reflections, but my wife will still close the curtain behind her when she's gaming or watching TV in the afternoon. The upscaling works really well. I secretly think Sony slapped the matte screen on the 55" and 65" to force people to jump to the 77" A80J or A90J line. The A80K and A90K OLEDs have a similar matte finish as well.

Have you watched content on a OLED before or is the A80J your first OLED? I know a lot of people claim they can't tell the difference. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just curious.
The difference is when there is ambient light, the semi-gloss diffuses light in a different manner compared to glass, your wife is correct for pulling the curtains, when the tv is pumping out light its not that bad but any darker scene you will see the semi-gloss is different, i would say i prefer the gloss with ambient light. In the "dark" however both semi-gloss and the glass looks the same, models i tested:

48A9S vs 55A80J
77A80J vs 77A80K
65A9G,65A9F, 65C2 and 65S95B vs 77A80K

I bought the C1 at this price when microcenter had it and had BB match it
But have not been able to set it up yet
(Not easy getting a plasma down )
Then this one went on sale 2 weeks later
Not sure if I would be happier with the sony now
But If was just at BB and saw the 65 G2
It was the best looking TV there even better than the 77" G2
So now I am wondering what was the Lowes price on the 55 G1?

Best Buy and Amazon were selling the 55 G1 for $1,000 in August

I bought an excellent rated open box tv that was a little over an hour away when I saw this original post. Got there and all accessories were missing, including stand, remote, and cords. In addition the TV set was shrink wrapped so it was hard to inspect. That said, I decided to cut my losses and decline the purchase despite wasting the time and gas to get there. I disputed that this set should not have been sold as "excellent" but it fell on deaf ears. I'm typically not a fan of Best Buy for its short return window and generally avoid it when I can. After this experience I will try to avoid shipping here even more. I would recommend calling to confirm condition prior to pickup.

They'll have to investigate both your and my case. I still have the 55" LG G1 hiding under a bed from the Best Buy sale a month ago. They were clearing them out for the same $1K as this A80J. I couldn't pass up on that. I'm planning on replacing an old Panasonic Plasma in our bedroom after a renovation and hoping she doesn't notice the difference, at least till weeks after lol.
This the reason u get married.?Thanks now i am more sure then ever never to get married. I like to be independent as long the bills paid and money saved for a rainy day, do as u like with it. But all their own, i hate being on a short leash or being told how to spent the money i work so hard for

yeah it's hard to make a marriage work if you are super self centered/selfish.

Not the same. Consumer Reports says the CJ has worse HDR performance than the J.
They are the same tv...maybe they tested a WBC panel versus a WBE where the latter would be brighter but this panel lottery would exist for all models whether J or CJ.

They are not the same then, if that's true. If they have different panels then they are not the same.

The panel lottery of WBC vs WBE exists across all versions of the 55 and 65 A80J or A80CJ, the fact that they measured the A80CJ as having weaker HDR performance would be the same if they measured one from Best Buy with the WBC panel, they are the same tv.

The only way Comsumer reports could come to a fair conclusion would have been to test two tvs with the same panel type, for example the 77 inch models, from what i see they tested the 55A80J and the 65A80CJ, there's your clue for panel lottery. Unfortunately, im not a member to see their testing methodology and how they came to that conclusion.
