He may have gotten EPP pricing and is comparing the price to what he paid at Costco ($100 more than this deal). That would make the Dell about $1020 after the AmEx discounts or only $20 more than Costco's Lenovo.

And yes, I would appreciate a link too.
I ordered it on 10/8th and promo code "TOMSGUIDE5" had since expired

Nice. Good to see that it's a full-size PSU - looks like a standard PSU that can easily be replaced/upgraded (unlike Dell that uses proprietary PSU).

Anyone know if all the parts are standard so that I can replace the case with a Lian Li in the future?

Not very standard. It has 10 pin PSU connector instead of 24 pin one. The cooler seems use AMD holes size. Not sure about motherboard screw holes, but the motherboard has built-in front USB connectors, it can not be utilized on other cases.

I'm just going to take a minute to complain about the ports...
1 usb 3.2 gen2
a usb-c that only supports 5gb/s transfer rate

They really cheaped out on the motherboard. I would have liked to see usb-c with 2x2 for 20gb/s and the enclosures for 2x2 are well priced.

only 2 memory slots. already full.
That's probably preferable to only putting one stick in. Obviously 4 slots would be best but if you only have two at least run it dual channel. I don't exactly know how picky the new intel CPUs are but Ryzen hates single channel and OEMs seem to do it all the time.

heating is not an issue, check out the review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKkAv8mOvyc

CPU temp is about 75 degrees during gaming. That's acceptable.

PSU is 500W and uses standard size. So, you can upgrade the GPU later if you like. By the way, the CPU is quite powerful.

Also, upgrading memory is not bad, just swap out the existing (8x2) with 16x2. And sell the old memory. DD4 is relatively cheap now.

This is the best deal for gaming PC right now.
Not that long ago $900 dollars was only going to get you an i5 and 1650. GPU prices going down and probably the upcoming 40XX series launch are helping prices a lot. Some of the laptop deals on here recently have been decent also.

From the pictures online seems like the gpu blocks the second slot unless it's a single slot which makes fixing the port situation a problem.

They're all picky to the point where you want 100% matched sets of the same brand, speed, and latency. Ideally all purchased from the same fabrication.

The days of just throwing unmatched DIMMs ended around the Pentium 3 era.

It's not as bad as rambus (remember that?) used to be, where it would flat out refuse to run if mismatched.

However, it won't be optimal in terms of performance because of dual and quad channel pairing.

Actually with Intel CPUs and stock mobos at least, have found it to be very forgiving. It just runs everything at the lowest common denominator speed and latency wise. Obviously the preference is to run identical pairs and I always do when possible, but I've even run one with one stick of factory standard memory and one stick of high performance Corsair with heatsink etc. The specs were severely mismatched and it ran it fine in dual channel with the specs of the slower stick. That's not to say I've never seen an issue where it either wouldn't boot and gave a beep code (it could not find a common latency that both sticks supported from what I recall) or ran in single channel, but it's been rare, I think DDR2 was the last time I saw that.

Attempting to get two sticks from the same lot is not necessary. Yes, if you're buying a pair anyway get a "kit" with two sticks as that's the safest, but if you're just adding one stick to an existing stick, just jump on eBay and find one with the same part number and you'll be fine. Even if a different part or brand completely just make sure the specs match and will likely also be fine (though personally I wouldn't want to go that route, better safe than sorry and match the brand and part number).

I frequently pull out an old desktop for some temporary purpose and slap in some random mismatched dimms from the drawer and never have seen any issues other than the one or two times a long time ago.
