Bosch's brushless are poorer than others: they're not significantly more powerful, they emit an annoying whine, and have difficult trigger behavior. They are certainly not worth 2x the cost, especially with only a 3/8" chuck.

This drill was long wirecutter's recommendation. I agree that they are plenty powerful for most work and they're a joy to use, fitting far more comfortably in my hand than other stick-style 12V systems (e.g. Milwaukee).

The impact is less-powerful than others but still usable for regular screws. My electrician used it *because* it was less powerful to avoid over-torquing and it has an all-rubber front.

In my experience Bosch's 12V batteries have very low self-discharge and are still usable many months after being charged. I have some that are close to 10 years old and still work fine.

I like the GLI12V-300N stick light.

This is a brushed motor version. There is a brushless and more powerful motor version just FYI. I own this brushed version and it is plenty powerful for most work around the house.

I have this 12V version and it is quite nice; it is small and fairly lightwell and I think it works well for its small size. I agree the "must have brushless" isn't a big deal for this -- it works fine as it is.

I also have much bigger 18V ones (other brands, not Bosch) which are definitely more powerful and have more features but significantly larger and heavier. If you are doing something small, I would go for one like this (or the smaller Milwaukee M12).

If you are building a deck or drilling into big beams, they definitely get something bigger. You can get bigger lower-end drills and drill-combos for the same price, but bigger is not always better.
I also own this set for a few years, frequently use it and agree with every word. The only little "problem" for me (that doesn't affect the performance) is that there is no velcro to tie up the drill inside the case.

Bottom line: if you need drill/driver - get it. You won't regret.

The Ridgid deal looks like a 18v. I know nothing about drills… I don't think we even need an impact drill whatever that does
Go watch a few "drill vs impact" videos on YouTube and you'll see the difference. I used to use drill for everything, started using impact for certain projects and its night and day better. Less stripped screws lol

I bought this set 2 years ago from Amazon and I haven't had any issues with it or the 2 batteries it came with. Both are my primary tools around the house.

This set was $100 2 years ago and they had a $20 of $100 Bosch promotion and a discover 20% off coupon making my set $65 after taxes. Very happy with this set.

Less stripped screw heads, but more stripped screw holes (when using an impact driver).

For smaller screws, where finesses matters, use a drill. For larger screws and lags, an impact driver.

Which set is better - this one or Ridgid set from Home Depot for the same price? We would just use it for light duty work around the home.
It's not just a matter of 'better' .They're different. With the Bosch you will be restricted to 'light duty work around the house.
If you ever want to do something more, then you're going to wish you had the Rigid.

I've had this Bosch set for years and still love it. But If I was only going to own One set, I'd go with the Rigid 18 Volt because it's more powerful and versatile.
A have lots drill bits and accessories that won't fit in the 3/8" Bosch.

Bosch 12v universe is fairly limited but I have like 8 different battery types so I don't have to limit myself to one brand... These are awesome drills. Also have the 12v jigsaw which is fine, nothing crazy, but would love to get the 12v planer if it goes on sale.

Good house set. Tools in a bag with other tools and use for electrical , ceiling fans, drywall screws. I added in the drill with multiple heads to get to hard to reach screws with cabinets.

Bought a similar kit (had the impact instead of the drill) for a family member that does HVAC and also a separate 12v Bosch light. Used the screwdriver and flashlight daily and loved it. It was the perfect size, weight, and power for what he does daily. Then it went sour.
Close to one year later, the screwdriver, a battery, and the flashlight all broke. He still uses the impact. Not impressed anymore.

I've had a brushed version of this set for years. They're powerful and the batteries last way longer than any of my smaller projects. Great deal imo for people.

Yes, the 12V stick light is great! I keep one with me for most projects. Love these 12V drills and impact for most tasks. Weight and comfort are ideal for me and my DIY tasks. Though these brushed versions might be a bit less powerful the trigger control is wonderful. Very controllable.
