It's astonishing how quickly you say to not judge a book by its title and then proceed to throughly judge this book by its title.

Anyway, I have a hard copy of this book and it's pretty good. For me, the Acid section was easily the best chapter. My mind was constantly blown by the mechanisms of acidic ingredients in recipes. Absolutely fascinating.

Is this a recipe book or more about concepts (or both)? Just asking because if there are good recipes then I would prefer a physical book.

It's both. She has the digital book set up where you can access all the recipes together or you can find them in relation to the chapter teaching you about whatever concept. This is an absolute steal at this price

It's kind of a useless book tbh. It's mostly concepts and it's terribly organized and not all that useful. Not really sure why it's so popular. I borrowed it from the library with a bunch of other highly recommended books. I'd say food lab is a better concept book of the few that I've tried a bit but personally I don't really like that book either lol. For $2 on Amazon maybe give it a try I suppose.

There are thousands of recipe books, but there are fewer recipe theory books. This is an important book for understanding why some recipes are so good (why is a Big Mac so beloved?) and then how to bring vibrancy to any dish.

As someone else mentioned, it's split pretty evenly. If you are familiar with either Cookwise or the River Cottage books, it is structurally similar. With that said, this is definitely a better physical book as it has a lot visuals that don't translate well digitally (I have both physical and digital versions).

This book has a lot of great info, and I would generally recommend it. It is geared more for teaching folks how to pivot so you don't need to strictly follow recipes to get tasty results. I have cooked for many years and have taken a formal cooking course and still found some nuggets of new/helpful info.

I agree.
I've borrowed it from the library and felt it was pretty worthless as a cookbook. Okay reading but not worth keeping around the house for ideas.

If you are a novice in the kitchen and want to learn some things as far as how to flavor your food, this is well worth the 2 bucks. If you're thinking this book is full of recipes and you will learn how to cook like a pro, keep it moving. I have the hard copy and I learned a lot from it. I also tried the focaccia bread recipe.
In enjoy cookbooks that teach you a little bit of theory behind the practice. It's good to know why you're doing what you're doing when putting a dish together
