Bike is not "QR" : it is thru axle front and rear, and boost spacing at that. Fox doesn't even make QR forks anymore, yet a US based, high end MTB company (951 is the direct to consumer sub of Intense) with serious race teams that last designed sold a QR XC bike in 2013 or so, would build a custom carbon frame with fox suspension and QR to sell for $3K?
NX groupset is unambiguous in this price range for a down-country / heavy-duty XC / light trail bike like this: Ibis Ripley AF, YT Izzo etc, all come with in their base configuration, which is same $. The Ibis is not even a carbon front triangle...
Something like the Canyon Lux Trail might have a better built with SLX throughout for that $ (Discounted, down from $4K) but it is a less aggressive geo, more pure XC focused bike. And talking about "conservative/old" etc, this is very typical Canyon which still has some of its trail bikes being as "XC" geo as this 951 XC...at least the Lux fits two bottles inside the triangle, that's a good thing in my book for this class of bikes.
Overall, the bike is fine. It is not OMFG deal, it is not a no-brainer 50% off and $230 like an Axum, and it shouldn't be: its a $3+ K bike. But it is OK deal.
I have been keeping my eyes on deal at this price range for the year and half. Nothing really come close to the 951 in term of spec/cost until the recent Ripmo AF SLX build at the 3k+ range.
For people that say this is not a good deal. Just share whatever is comparable and be specific. Maybe I missed something and am curious.
As for the bike, you will find a lot of happy owners in SD and the dedicated 951 thread in MTBR and FB group. Although I found the wheels(heavy) and dropper are pretty crappy. But other than that, everything else are super solid including the NX drivetrain. Not sure why so many people say crap about but I am impressed with it for the last 1500miles riding in dry and wet conditions.
With all that, this is already a solid deal. When you add the benefit of buying from Costco, this is a killer deal IMHO and first hand experience with the bike.

I have a 951 Trail. It was the an excelent covid MTB deal. The seat on this bike is total junk. I broke through the pawls 3 times and had to purchase a new rear wheel. I have put over 500hrs of trail riding on the 951.
The 951s are excelent bikes. If you are new enough to need to ask questions then maybe you should buy from costco so it can be returned.

Presuming the XC is similar quality, this is a good deal and like others mentioned this is like $200-250 lower than the low price.
