Thanks, I was able to stack two Lenovo AMEX offers for another $200 off. They let you split payment right on the site so I had one
Spend $500 or more, get $100 back on one card
Get 15% back on purchases, up to a total of $100 on the other

You might get an upgraded SSD through Lenovo for this. It's a single sided M2242, so there's not a lot of options, much less inexpensive/performant ones.

I tried this laptop and while it's got great build quality, the lack of Pg Up/Pg Dn keys drove me nuts.

It's a business laptop, not for gaming, though it can handle some moderate usage

Little tip, get the vegan leather cover. It feels amazing and makes the machine very attractive.

oh no, is this the new thing with Lenovo? I have a C13 Yoga Thinkpad Chromebook and it doesn't have the pgup/pgdn buttons. I've used Lenovos for over 20 years and....am very used to them being there, so this drives me nuts. Now it sounds like the newest models are page up/down less?

I sincerely hope they never get rid of the trackpoint. When, and if, that day comes, my loyalty to Lenovo ends.

They always seem to make a blunder decision every 5-7 years, so theres that. Remember when they removed the trackpad buttons and had that slab of a touchpad? ChonkPad as they were called? Immediately returned my T440 or whatever it was because of that.

I joined the rewards program but I didn't receive a coupon or any kind of email about it.

the Ryzen 7 6850u T14s has similar non OLED specs for a cheaper price + the pg up and pg down keys.

I bought this laptop a few months ago during the other round of coupons and paid around 1500 maxed out specs, before cashback.

I love the oled and build quality.

I hate that the screen doesn't go as far back as the X1 Models.

the keyboard is decent, a bit on the smaller side, and nice that the FN and CTRL are standard rather than being reversed on most Thinkpads.

The trackpad is haptic, and out of 2 units, the first one sucked really bad it was way too sensitive and loose. The second one was much better but still awkward and find myself making lots of mis-clicks on it.

First unit I got was a pre-built earlier non OLED build, the Second unit was a Custom order fully spec'ed OLED one.
I returned the First unit, hated the loose trackpad and preferred the one with higher specs and OLED.

The SSD, the speeds are only Gen 3, though it's supposed to support Gen4.

I looked around for upgrade options, 2242, is not a popular size and I could not find any Gen 4 2242 options, the only one was from Micron but they don't sell it to consumers, OEM only.

Hopefully there are more options in the future though.

The build, OLED screen, and vegan leather feel very very premium for the price.

I built a max'ed out X1 Carbon Gen 10 w/ 5G but 128gb ssd (replacing with 2280 sized samsung 980 pro) even with coupons the lowest I could get it was around 1900 usd, msrp was over 4k.

so I would say if you were to compare the 2 the Z13 is definitely a better value at 1500.

But as far as usability, the X1 feels more at home for me (used a 2nd gen x1 yoga for work) and I like having a 14" screen vs a 13" though, the 1" might matter to you if traveling. the X1 is significantly lighter though so there's always that tradeoff.

Good catch. You're right, super hard to find any decent 1-sided M2242 drives. Adding the 1tb model in the config adds $220 after discounts, which isn't terrible. The Lenovo store offers a 1tb NVMe drive for about the same price: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/ac...xb1b85887. It's presumably the same drive they'd use to replace. Do you happen to know of any better options, performance-wise? It's not a dealbreaker for me and I'm sure would be usable, but a better drive would be nice.

Thank you very much for the review + insights. I haven't pulled the trigger on this deal yet, myself, but I'm close. Did you come across any decent M2 2242 replacement options? I also saw that the Micron 2400 was OEM only and haven't seen any pop up on eBay yet. Think I'll stick to the minimum spec in the configurator and keep an eye out for Gen 4 replacements.

I could not find any gen4 2242 drives. Though I see lots of gen3. But they are all generic brands. Not really my cup of tea. For now I left the 256gb drive that mine came with in it till more options are available.

Supposedly there's a micron gen 4 2242 drive that people swap in steam decks. It's slightly bigger than the 2230 that comes with the deck but supposedly works fine.

The only person I've seen with the micron gen 4 2242 is Linus from LTT.

I guess it's just a matter of time till they release more gen 4 drives in 2242 hopefully micron or under the crucial brand?

Just to confirm this is a gen3 drive? The site advertises it as a gen4 on the build out.
