I have this card and have held it since its inception in 2017. If you travel a lot, the included PriorityPass and it's lounge access was worth the $550 annual fee, but it's not worth it today though!
PriorityPass LOST pretty much ALL airport lounges and restaurants in the USA sometime in 2021, so the loss of this valuable travel perk is a deal breaker given the hefty annual fee! Plan to cancel my card before the renewal in December!
Also, their internal travel site were you can redeem these points seems to have higher prices and limited selection compared to any identical search on Expedia, Priceline, etc. so expect Chase to milk you out of those points pretty quickly.
This isn't true. In fact I've noticed that the airports I visit most frequently have actually added restaurants/lounges. EWR dropped theirs, and so did ORD but those were trash anyways. JFK however added a steakhouse in terminal 8. Most of the major airports have at least one offering, even if it's something as simple as The Club. Not the greatest food/amenties but it beats sitting in the terminal. Plus the internet is a lot better, usually.
You can get $15 back for using instacart. That's like Free $140 groceries from Aldi or Wagman's with free pickup.
I've found that 15 dollars generally just covers the markup that's charged on IC but with the free delivery with Instacart plus, it's still a time-saver, if nothing else.
People are keeping these cards? Churning is the way to go. I have had Chase sapphire bonuses three times in the last ten years. It used to be 24 months but now it is 48 months.
What do you do? Do you spend the points the cancel or downgraded or do you somehow transfer the points else where? What's the best way to churn these? Thanks.
Debating doing this and combining with the 50% off apple products to upgrade iPhones....feels like it might be the best (non-trade in / new line) deal.
Getting the new iPhone 14 soon. Can you explain how to get this deal.
I keep both. The AMEX lounges are significantly nicer, especially the international ones. Chase points are better. The AFs are high but not really if you travel.
AMEX: $189 Clear, $200 airline (buy a basic ticket and then use it for luggage), $200 Uber, plus lounges which saves money + sanity each trip.
CSR: Primary rental car insurance (saves from purchasing the rental insurance or having to file a claim with your own insurer which would be *really* expensive), better priority pass, $300 "travel" credit which is as good as cash, 1.5x multiplier for other chase cards.
They both have a bunch of other subscriptions that I wouldn't pay for but save me money as I use them. 2x Global Entry means I can give one to a friend.
Also dumb, but the AMEX card is indestructible. I've had I think four CSRs peel and become unusable. I should ask for plastic cards. The AMEX card is so nice I don't feel comfortable using it in certain countries, (un)fortunately often this is not a problem as AMEX is accepted in many fewer places than VISA so that's another win for CSR. Because of that AMEX can never be a single card carry for me.
If I had to choose one it would be the CSR due to the VISA/AMEX thing. The card is worthless if I can't use it.

I'm actually going to agree with diw here. I fly out of lax and they no longer offer virgin lounge, don't have a lounge in the north side terminals and rock and brews no longer gives dining credit. Lax, for domestic, Alaska lounge was the only until they left priority pass. In den, had to track all the way to the end of another terminal to get food credit from 1 restaurant. In dal, there wasn't anything that I remember that was open. In IAH, nothing., In SEA, Alaska lounge left priority pass. Essentially, PP has been really neutered.
Also check out Capitol One Venture X. Essentially a net $5 per year card. But the categories % are not as good as CSR. It is still a very good travel card with travel and cell phone protections.
I just called, when downgrading CSR to Freedom OG, you need to wait 1 full billing cycle (after your current cycle ends) to be eligible for the sign up bonus. To make sure there's no duplicate under the account you'll just get declined and a hard hit on your credit.
Anyone know how to check when the last time I signed up for a Sapphire card is? I don't remember how recently I've signed up for a card.
If you call the customer care they can tell. Also... You can go ahead and apply. If you are not eligible they will reject without hard inquiry. Then also CS can tell when you will be eligible. That's what happened to me last year
