You can generate points with this card more easily but AMEX has better lounge access. Boils down to do you how much do you travel.
annual fee is 550
It has never been 120k. The highest it's been is 100k

This or AMEX Plantium?
They both have their trade offs but I think the Chase is probably better. Unless you travel a lot though I don't see either of them being that practical.

If you dont travel a lot but tend to use your CC for everything (and pay off your balance monthly) , i recommend you go with the Reserve for a nice in between. This card is really anchored towards ppl that travel (or plan to) a lot. I personally did the Reserve, asked then to waive the first years fee and downgraded after the year of use

I didn't see anyone else ask... How did you negotiate the first year fee waiving? Were you able to get approval for that before committing to the card?

Ah bummer I just applied 2 days back with 70k offer. Not sure if Chase adjust the SUB?

I tried to get adjustment for Chase Sapphire preferred offer when it got bumped up like a week after I was approved and they basically just said sorry, bad luck. Give them a call though, you never know.

It was about an yr ago, online signup will get 100k, at branch it was 120k.
Would be awesome if they waive the annual fee the first year if you sign up in-branch for the Reserve like they did for the Preferred last year.

How do you get $5/year for keeping it open? There is $395 annual fee and $300 travel credit, the $100 TSA precheck is only once a 4 or 5 years.

Venture X gives 10k points anniversary per year which equals $100, tsa/global is every 4 or 5 renewal as the card credit that you get. I haven't done yet that benefit need tp do

I went to Chase bank today, they told me that currently they do not have any incentive for applying at the bank vs online for Reserve but the banker also said if I want to apply for CS Preferred, she can waive the AF and also give 70k SUB. I applied for Reserve at the bank and got approved within 2 minutes.

Alright, thanks for letting me know. Especially about the Preferred.

Product change your CSR to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex. Wait a month or so. Sign up for a new CSR. You can't get a bonus from product change or upgrade.

Also keep in mind that it has to be 48 months since you last received a bonus on a Sapphire card.

CC veterans, correct me if I'm wrong.
I have both Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire Preserve which I opened in March 2021, I only got 60k points at that time. I'm wondering if I can transfer my points to the Freedom, cancel my Preserve and come March 2023 (48 months after) open the Reserve and get bonus points again?

The quality of the lounges are going way downhill. Always super crowded and the hours are horrible "because of covid"

I am well aware there are a few places left in the US but the list is anemic and few airports compared to 2019 and prior years. It's a list of maybe a dozen places, a far cry from the 1300 claimed in their advertising campaigns. Huge airport hubs like Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, NY, etc no longer have jack on the Priority Pass!

If you travel to a few of the airports on that list frequently then you're in luck but the vast majority of travelers are out of luck when hitting a big hub!

I can see the attraction if your home airport is a gigantic hub, or if you fly through one often. I tend to fly through DTW a lot (Delta), but there are no restaurants there, only massages. Plus, if you mostly travel on business and have a p-card, there isn't much value in getting free meals.

The whole hospitality industry took advantage of "covid" to cull a lot of perks, and hasn't brought them back despite not reducing prices. Many hotel pools are still closed "covid" (not that I'd use them anyway, but the kids like it). Hotel housekeeping has taken a huge hit - just now most places are getting back to "well we'll do new towels every 3 days" type of thing (when traveling by myself this isn't a big deal, but with the family we go through towels like mad). It's all a shame because zero people believe the lie anymore - don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining - we all know that you (hotels, etc) save a ton of money by not providing the services you used to.

Yeah, for sure they're ymmv. For me they haven't been useful. For one of the busiest airports in the US (DFW) their offerings are terrible. And I previously lived in Orlando and their offerings there were just as bad (although it looks like they may have opened a second lounge there since when I lived there).

I know PP lounges are usually better outside the US so it was just funny that all the lounges at CDG were still closed due to the pandemic.

But I have been to a couple of decent ones (LAS, SEA) but I find I'm often going out of my way to use it.

And Centurion seems way overhyped now. The LGA one was nice, but the DFW one is on the same level as PP (mediocre) and the IAH one was a joke. I've never been to the LAS one because there is ALWAYS a line of 50+ deep waiting to get in. A complete joke.

Anyway, I guess I'm a lounge snob.

DFW has the only Capital One lounge at the moment, correct? I'd be interested in your thoughts there. Venture X is a pretty solid product and given the annual fee difference, worth it for me. It's very easy to offset the AF with just a couple of the perks.
