You can generate points with this card more easily but AMEX has better lounge access. Boils down to do you how much do you travel.
annual fee is 550
It has never been 120k. The highest it's been is 100k

Yes, just did it…had to wait a week for the account to be dropped off as a sapphire before applying for the reserve.

Funny side story - this was when they still had price protection, so I basically abused the sh^% out of that program and they blacklisted me from the card and all other Chase products. I only found out about the closure on the day of when I was trying to charge my cards and every single one of them was declined except my debit cards. Had to call CS while I was trying to buy lunch for other people and it ended up being very embarrassing Big Grin

So I lost the Reserve, Freedom (old one) which stung, and the Slate card, and I was kicked off of their network for 2 years.

They recently sent me another invitation to re-open the Reserve card albeit with a lower bonus. I've been on AmEx Plat for 2 years now and like the rewards they offer better. Plus the Centurion lounges beat their PP program by a long shot. Will be interesting to see if they become competitive again with the Chase lounges.

You can downgrade to the Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex instead of closing your CSP.

To be eligible for the bonus offer you need to be 48 months past the last time you RECEIVED the bonus from your previous offer for the CSP. Not from the time you were approved. Please keep that in mind and plan accordingly.

The business class was Air France from Naples to DC but they also had it for most of Italy and also to JFK. It was a little more, I think 55k but there was a Chase transfer bonus happening at the time.
to the west coast from Europe its not less than 70-80k miles 1 way in buisness class.

do you get the doordash and instacart sub every year or just the first year? Do these perks get replaced by other thigs or is it really just another way to incentivize to get you to sign up for the card?
I canceled my Chase Reserve two weeks back and signed up again , got my card. Doordash pass is activated for free until Dec 2024 and so is the $5 monthly Doordash credit. I haven't tried the InstaCart yet as I have 3 months free trial ongoing, need to cancel to sign up and check it out.

Nope. But since it has been > 48 months since you would have gotten the bonus for the Preferred, you can downgrade it to a Freedom, wait 3-5 days, and then apply for a new Reserve for the bonus.

I saw 55k miles from SFO-Europe in Air France/KLM biz class over the summer for bookings in late 2022-into 2023 (sadly couldn't get my wife to commit to dates, and had to let that one go...).

Just opened my CSR 15 days ago. Anyone know if it'll automatically switch or is it worth contacting customer service to bump it up to 80k? Is the extra 20k in points worth the $100 in annual fee?
Spoke to them today. As long as you open the account after 9/15/22 you will be able to obtain the bonus. I applied on 9/18/22 and the rep said they will make the adjustment on my account and make a note. In contrast from what I read here, it does not automatically apply. You must call the number on the back of your card asking if are able receive the extra 20k UR points.

So if I got the 60k CSP last year I'm not eligible for this? damn it….

I have had both (currently have AMEX Platinum, closed CSR earlier this year) and I much prefer CSR. The transfer partners are much better and that is what I primarily use my points for.

The AF on the Platimum is way too high and they a lot of their benefits are superfluous and not worth the extra cost of the AF ($100 credit at Saks, $200 airline FEE credit where you have to choose an airline at the start and it only applies to incidental fees (unless you game it on United which could go away at any moment), Walmart+ credit, $200 hotel credit for hotels I would never stay at, Uber cash, Soulcycle credit). A bunch of benefits that I would otherwise not use.

CSR HAD some of that, but the fee is a lot less, and again, better transfer partners which is the big thing.

Unfortunately my experience is chase has the worst customer experience. When I had to actually make travel claims they took years to process and multiple resubmissions. Their apps are also crap. For example I can't get them to keep my new phone numbers registered properly. I have tried many times to change my number they can't get it properly changed so it keeps calling my old number for two factor authentication logins.

Chase may have good benefits in writing but when you try to actually use them it's a pain in the butt.

That's odd. Never had any issues. The biggest issue I've had is needing to call to link my wife's Chase account with mine in order to share points. But that was a one time call and now I can transfer online.

have you ever actually had a real claim that you needed them to work on like travel being canceled or something? Lucky you I guess. I'll stick with Amex customer service 😎

It's the 2nd highest public points offering for the CSR in it's ~7 year lifetime. It's also arguably one of the best travel rewards cards on the planet. See below for more...

If your goal is to redeem for cash back then a travel card is most likely NOT for you.

That said, if you use those 80,000 points to book travel it's worth $1,200 guaranteed.
If you transfer those same points to a partner you can get more value.

The annual fee is effectively $250 (550 - 300 travel credit). And there are other benefits which help offset the cost.

But again if you won't be utilizing the cards benefits, then this isn't a card for you.

I have chase preferred and recently decided to use my points for travel.

So I'm assuming the flight portal is the same across chase credit cards. It's terrible at finding decent deals on flights. I was looking at $800+ for a flight that I found for $350 on kayak. So I am skeptical of his incentive. The pay yourself back option is decent though. It gave me an extra 25% on Airbnb
