I'm thinking of downgrading too. What did you downgrade to? And did you get an answer on how soon you can apply for Reserve?
I downgraded the Preferred to Freedom Flex, which already showed up on my online account. But still couldn't get a solid answer on how soon I can apply for the Reserve. Seems people waited for a few days, or a month (which should be much safer) but the deal is ending soon...

If you product changed, based on people's data points on Reddit, it takes 4 days (non business counts too) to clear your sapphire from the system, but could be sooner or later YMMV. Personally I product changed to a Chase Freedom w/ Ultimate Rewards on 11/18 and applied again on the 24th and got approved instantly.
Well that was easy, got my card dropped half a stack on it got my points booked travel already spent all of the $300 additional travel credit and got my priority pass account. Had a non-reserve sapphire card before this, and it is well worth the upgrade if you travel

Thanks for the timeline! How fast did you get your physical card?
Edit: Just applied for it and got approved (I downgraded my CSP to Chase Freedom on 11/21)

I had called previously and asked to cancel the card (signed up for AMEX Platinum). CSR offered to reduce the annual fee down to $300 per year.
I've got the platinum and I love it. Just trying to see if it's worth having both. Especially because Visa is more widely accepted.
what'd you spend the travel credit on

Is chase always 1:1 with Hyatt, or are there ever bonuses?
